NEW NOMINATIONS

[edit]

Category:Carniolan people by religion

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: merge, redundant category layer with only one subcategory. Marcocapelle (talk) 15:05, 9 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Members of the States General of the Netherlands by term

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: I don't think this adds any value compared to Category:Lists of members of the States General of the Netherlands by term Dajasj (talk) 14:59, 9 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Quaker children's writers

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: non-defining intersection per EGRS SMasonGarrison 14:56, 9 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:China in fiction by province

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: To be more precise and to match other categories like Category:Australia in fiction by state or territory and Category:India in fiction by state or union territory. (Autonomous regions of China are border regions comparable to provinces. In fact, Xinjiang, Ningxia, and Guangxi were formerly provinces.) T3W6K9V7Z1Q4 (talk) 19:04, 1 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

User LGBTQ categories

[edit]
The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: speedy keep. deny/blocked sock (non-admin closure) Alpha3031 (tc) 15:39, 9 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: WP:MYSPACE. We deleted Category:Straight Wikipedians and Category:Heterosexual Wikipedians under the same rationale, so why not do it with the user LGBTQ categories? Freddy[citation needed] 11:46, 9 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep The rationale really falls into WP:OTHERSTUFF territory. Categories such as this are used for collaborative reasons when creating WikiProjects and other core programs/outreach to find who edits Wikipedia, who may have expertise or experience in certain areas, etc. Meta categories are fundamental to community building. I would be more inclined to scrapping all Wikipedian categories before targeting specifics. – {{u|hekatlys}} WOOF 13:07, 9 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Speedy keep, no valid reason for deletion given. Sugar Tax (talk) 15:05, 9 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:People from Boye County

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: "People from X" category, newly created for just one person. As always, every geographic entity that exists does not automatically get one of these the moment one person from that place has an article to file in it -- there would need to be several people from that place to file in the category before it was justifiable, and for just one person we leave them in the next higher-level entity until there are more.
As I'm not an expert on China, I'm also willing to withdraw this if somebody with more knowledge in the matter can find four or five other people to populate this with -- but it doesn't aid navigation of the Wikipedia to obsessively microcategorize everything down to the narrowest possible categories with just one article in them, so if he's the only person who can be filed here then he has to stay at the Hebei level until the Boye County level has more than just one person in it. Bearcat (talk) 15:02, 1 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: Thoughts on alternate merge proposal to Category:People from Baoding?

Category:Recipients of the Homi Bhabha Medal and Prize

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: WP:OCAWARD and WP:NONDEFINING
The Homi Bhabha Medal and Prize is a physics award established in 2010. Maybe it will gain prestige over time, but right now none of the articles treat it as defining, listing it in passing with other awards. The winners are already listed in Homi Bhabha Medal and Prize for any reader interested in the topic. - RevelationDirect (talk) 01:16, 9 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Disney Legends

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: WP:OCAWARD, WP:PERFCAT, WP:NONDEFINING, and WP:G4
Disney Legends is an in-house corporate recognition program for Disney performers and employees. Billy Crystal received it for his performance in Monsters Inc. while Oprah won it for Princess & the Frog and their articles treat their Disney association as one of many performances. Long-term employees like Burny Mattinson and Leota Toombs are defined by their Disney association but we already have categories like Category:Walt Disney Animation Studios people and Category:Disney imagineers for them. Most awards have outside parties identifying winners, while this feels more like an elevated employee of the month program for self-promotion. The winners are already listed in Disney Legends for any reader interested in the topic. - RevelationDirect (talk) 01:16, 9 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

November 8

[edit]

Category:Dutch MPs 2025–2030

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: The House has a habit of being disbanded earlier, so usually "present" is used in articles, categories and templates Dajasj (talk) 22:04, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Ashanti Methodist ministers

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: underpopulated non-defining intersection SMasonGarrison 21:01, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Businesspeople from Kitakyushu

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: upmerge for now. underpopulated cateogry SMasonGarrison 20:56, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Haemophilia in European royalty

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: The contents are primarily people with haemophilia. Plus the parents are Royalty and nobility with disabilities, People with haemophilia SMasonGarrison 20:09, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Rename per nom. Omnis Scientia (talk) 16:27, 9 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:American female bodybuilders of Chinese descent

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: per Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2025 September 3#American sportspeople by country of descent SMasonGarrison 19:16, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Merge per nom. Omnis Scientia (talk) 16:28, 9 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Smasongarrison (hello! long time since we last spoke, hope you're well!), also worth nominating these categories under the previous Cfd.
Omnis Scientia (talk) 16:33, 9 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Immigrants to the Republic of Geneva

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: Delete for now. underpopulated category with only one person in it SMasonGarrison 18:34, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Canadian consciousness researchers and theorists

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: Upmerge for now. underpopulated category SMasonGarrison 18:18, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:People known as Lahori

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: Nondefining. The description says: "This is category for people known by suffix Lahori." SMasonGarrison 15:22, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Navies by former colony

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: rename based on current content of the category. Maybe in the past there was more, but that does not help for now. Marcocapelle (talk) 15:06, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Disasters in Bavaria

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: delete, underpopulated category and none of the other German states has its own disasters subcategory. There is no need to merge, the article is already elsewhere in the tree of potential merge targets. Marcocapelle (talk) 09:45, 1 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 13:45, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Austrian people of the War of the Bavarian Succession

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: delete, redundant category layer with only one subcategory. There is no need to merge, the subcategory is still appropriately parented. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:12, 1 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, GothicGolem29 (Talk) 13:42, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Judensau

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: delete, not a defining characteristic of these locations. This is well suitable for a list. Marcocapelle (talk) 08:51, 1 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, GothicGolem29 (Talk) 13:42, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Military of the German Empire by state

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: delete, anachronistic category, the German Empire was established in 1871, while most of the content of the category is from before 1871. Marcocapelle (talk) 09:31, 1 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, GothicGolem29 (Talk) 13:42, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Military of Bavaria

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: merge, Bavaria no longer has its own army, everything about it is history. Marcocapelle (talk) 09:35, 1 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, GothicGolem29 (Talk) 13:42, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic songs

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: With only four songs here and only three left in the target, it's not at all clear why we would need a separate subcategory for one individual television series within the franchise instead of just one category for the franchise as a whole. Bearcat (talk) 15:56, 23 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.

Category:Battle of Poltava

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: delete, we do not categorize biographies by battle, that would become a sort of WP:PERFCAT. The articles are already in the tree of Category:People of the Great Northern War. Marcocapelle (talk) 13:12, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Zaporozhian Host

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: rename, article Cossack Hetmanate starts with "The Cossack Hetmanate ... officially the Zaporozhian Host..." while article Zaporozhian Host is a sort of disambiguation page. It looks like Cossack Hetmanate is the common name. Marcocapelle (talk) 12:58, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

People of the Ministry

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: Upmerge redundant category layers. They have barely any contents and don't fit into a category tree for people by ministry. Other countries' categories don't do this and neither do any other Chinese ministry categories. Mclay1 (talk) 12:57, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Lists of theatres in the United States

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: Rename to use American English per WP:ENGVAR. Servite et contribuere (talk) 12:33, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Saitama-railstation-stub

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: Obsolete stub cat with only the template remaining. AlphaBetaGamma (Talk/report any mistakes here) 11:26, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Government ministries of China

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: Both these categories appear to be for identical purposes. All of the ministries are for the PRC not any other form of China. Category:Government ministries of China was created very recently so should be merged into the category with page history. The original category can be renamed to just use "China" since the article is at China and I'm not aware of anything it needs disambiguating from. Mclay1 (talk) 09:16, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:17th-century Ukrainian politicians

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: delete, the people in the category are more accurately described as hetman than as "politician" and the articles are already in Category:Hetmans of Zaporizhian Host. Marcocapelle (talk) 08:14, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Emigrants from Saint-Domingue to France

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: upmerge for now. underpopulated category SMasonGarrison 04:26, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Japanese superhero films‎ by decade

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: Per this. All entries may be transferred to Category:Japanese superhero films and then copied to the respective decade categories. The mistake I made in the previous CfD was nominating them individually, which I'm not making now. The lone opposer to the previous CfD is now blocked. Kailash29792 (talk) 02:47, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Fictional characters by medium and species

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: Unnecessary cross-categorization that fails WP:CROSSCAT. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 15:01, 13 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Zxcvbnm: Is the nomination intended to include the subcategories? –LaundryPizza03 (d) 23:59, 13 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No, just the category itself. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 00:04, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Merge to Category:Speculative fiction characters by medium per consensus at Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2025_April_21#Fictional_characters_by_work. The contents shouldn't be directly in the other parents. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 00:21, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

November 7

[edit]

Category:Fictional garments

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: Unclear distinction between the two categories. I would also support a reverse merge for similar reasons, and arguably that may be better, but the costumes category is older. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 23:54, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

People from the Republic of Venice (1)

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: rename for consistency with this earlier discussion. Marcocapelle (talk) 22:23, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Please leave redirects for all the Category:Venetian foo renames. SMasonGarrison 22:52, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: rename for consistency with this earlier discussion. Marcocapelle (talk) 22:21, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:South American dragons

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: Only 2 entries. WinstonDewey (talk) 21:36, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:1672 mm gauge railways in Spain

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: A single-article category for a rarely-used gauge (an early version of the Iberian gauge). –LaundryPizza03 (d) 21:20, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Mythology in video games

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: After removing unnecessary pages, only 1 cat left, Category:Video games based on mythology. Makes this an unnecessary layer. Would only upmerge to cat above, the subcat is already in Category:Video games by source. WinstonDewey (talk) 21:10, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Years and decades in the Kingdom of Bavaria

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: merge, apart from the establishments subcategories (which have their own tree) this tree is almost empty. Some of the merging needs to be done manually but most of this can be processed by the bot. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:59, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Kingdom of Prussia

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: rename for consistency with the rest of the tree of Category:Kingdom of Prussia, and to disambiguate from the Duchy of Prussia or Prussia (region). I am assuming that the subcategories can be speedied if this goes ahead. Marcocapelle (talk) 16:06, 31 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Support. Precision is important in cases where there is a possibility of ambiguity. Solidest (talk) 18:19, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:History of the Mount Everest

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: Current category is badly named, i.e. Mount Everest shouldn't be preceded by 'the'. Ericoides (talk) 14:53, 31 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.

Category:Swedish slaves

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: delete, none of the three articles are about Swedish people in foreign slavery or about foreign people in Swedish slavery. Marcocapelle (talk) 15:40, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Haitian slaves

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: rename per Category:People from Saint-Domingue, the current name is anachronistic. Marcocapelle (talk) 15:33, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm fine with renaming the category, but we should leave a redirect to prevent the category from being used. SMasonGarrison 22:50, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Rename and leave redirect per Mason. Omnis Scientia (talk) 10:58, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:American political people who owned slaves

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: To match Category:American slave owners. User:Namiba 14:53, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Famous patients

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: Rename per WP:SUBJECTIVECAT and as a set-category counterpart to Category:Patient. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 01:33, 31 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Support, also want to put out alt nom of Category:Individual patients to avoid confusion with the Patient parent cat. Could see it resulting in inadvertent mistakes and reflects similar structure in animal cats such as with Category:Individual vertebrates and it's subcats. Category:Zapotec weavers

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: underpopulated category. only contains a village, no individuals who weave SMasonGarrison 23:04, 30 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Delete Possibly fails WP:OCEGRS; contrast Category:Navajo weavers which has a rich culture of weaving. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 02:04, 31 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Wikipedia objectionable content

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: This seems a completely subjective grouping of articles. China, Black women, Chiropractic, American decline, Bikini, Hugo de Burgh, and the Coat of arms of Warsaw, rather surprised to be grouped together I guess. Nearly everything can be objectionable to someone, very unclear why these 892 articles are singled out. Fram (talk) 10:38, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Fooian Austro-Hungarians

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: Weird, convoluted demonym that doesn't appear in sources. Use a more normal, descriptive title instead (WP:NDESC).

The choice of "from" with the Czech people category doesn't seem like the most natural way to phrase this, go with the more neutral "in". But either would work better than the current form. --Joy (talk) 08:42, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Rename per nom. Omnis Scientia (talk) 18:58, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:American Jews of East Asian descent

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: Delete and manually merge with appropriate category for each entry per WP:NARROWCAT. Omnis Scientia (talk) 07:59, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. In this 2010 discussion, it was decided to rename Fooian American Jews to American people of Fooian-Jewish descent, a format preferred to American Jews of Fooian descent. In this 2019 discussion, it was decided to similarly merge Category:American Jews by national origin to Category:American people of Jewish descent. This discussion is also relevant to regional descent of American Jews. I think it is clear and consensual that both formats would serve the same purpose and that only one is necessary. Also, although it is probably frequent for American Jews to have both Jewish and non-Jewish ancestry, their non-Jewish ancestry is irrelevant to their being Jewish; that leaves empty the need for having Jews of Fooian descent categories that wouldn't fit in people of Fooian-Jewish descent categories. Let's take the imaginary case of an American, themselves Jewish, child of a Jewish Polish mother and a non-Jewish Chinese father. For this fictitious person, American people of Polish-Jewish descent and American people of Chinese descent may be defining, but American Jews of Chinese descent is not. Category:Politician in Tamilnadu with Karnataka origins

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: Non-defining. Wikipedia does not have any established scheme of categorizing politicians in one subnational division as having "origins" in a different subnational division of the same country, and Tamil Nadu/Karnataka is not some special case of greater significance than Ontario/Quebec, Scotland/Wales, California/Oklahoma or Bavaria/Saxony. Bearcat (talk) 07:57, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Films shot by Amit Roy

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: Non-defining. We have no established scheme of categorizing films for the identity of their cinematographers -- this new thing is the only "films shot by X" category that exists for any cinematographer on the entire planet. And furthermore, Amit Roy doesn't even seem to have a biographical article at all, so one can hardly claim that he's somehow a special case of greater ubernotability than any other cinematographer in the history of film who doesn't have one of these. Even worse, one of the three films filed here has three cinematographers listed in its infobox, but has been shot-by catted only for Amit Roy and not for the other two (which is just further proof that we don't categorize films for this). Bearcat (talk) 07:50, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, while on the one hand it's surprising someone hasn't created more "Films shot by..." categories (considering the number of notable cinematographers), in the instance of Amit Roy we have no article for him and no proof that the categorisation is appropriate (other than a mention of his name in the film Infobox). Non-defining fact, in this instance. Sionk (talk) 14:43, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:African-American museums in Canada

Category:Serbian people from former countries

Category:1632 series books

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: Upmerge. The 1632 series is a series of books. There is no related media franchise requiring the books to be diffused from the main category for the series. The subcategory doesn't fit into any category trees that don't apply to the main category. Mclay1 (talk) 16:17, 6 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Individual glires

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: WP:NARROWCAT, not a helpful cross-categorization for navigation. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 16:08, 6 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge per nom. Marcocapelle (talk) 16:50, 6 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. Helpful categorization that fits into the larger category tree. Also not the sort of trivial cross-categorization that NARROWCAT refers to. Star Garnet (talk) 23:45, 6 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge a reasonable way to subcategorize individual mammals would be by (traditional) orders, not various clades in between orders and class Mammalia (marsupials are no longer recognized as a single order, but were traditionally. Category:Individual ungulates has just two subcategories corresponding to orders, and should be merge as well as the glires category). Plantdrew (talk) 17:57, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Per WP:CATSPECIFIC, it should, if anything, be the other way, adding a several tiers that are helpful but unlikely to be known outside of biological circles (individual ungulates and carnivorans as individual ferungulates, individual primates and glires as individual Euarchontoglires, individual ferungulates and Euarchontoglires as individual boreoeutherians, individual boreoeutherians and proboscideans as individual eutherians, individual eutherians and marsupials as individual mammals). I'm neutral as to whether that degree of specificity is desirable, but I'm pretty confident less specificity is not the answer here. The trouble with categorizing individual mammals is the hierarchy is so in flux and, in some cases, debatable (should individual cetaceans be under individual even-toed ungulates, or should they be subcats of individual artiodactyls, which in turn would be a subcat of individual ungulates along with individual odd-toed ungulates). Few agree on a specific set of orders, and going that route likely leads to the most categorization of any option, with many orders with few individual members. Category:Monsters

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: I'm usually not a fan of splitting categories by gender, but I am certain that female monsters are a defining cross-categorization, as evidenced by such creatures as the sphinx or Grendel's mother, among others. I made a monster girl article a while back, which, while it's only about a specific type of humanoid female monster, demonstrates at least some standalone notability. An article called female monster (or Monsters and femininity)? is likely to also be notable. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 15:15, 6 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep for now: While I wouldn't if there are gender studies or feminist interpretations on femineity or how these characters are treated. Monsters that are more tropes or characters like Medusa or Kuchisake-onna are complicated. As they aren't real, the Medusa article just says they are "described as female" or are "the spirit of a woman" and I don't know how seriously they are defined as actually being female or male or anything. Andrzejbanas (talk) 20:27, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
One direct example in RS is here, where the Kuchisake-onna is described as "a well-dressed, but violently insecure young woman". This article describes the Greek sphinx as having "the haunches of a lion, the wings of a great bird, and horribly, the face and breast of a woman" and while it is not fully a woman, it's nevertheless described as female with feminine pronouns. There's also the classic Scylla who begins as a female nymph before being transformed into a monster, but nevertheless retains the female connotation. Siren (mythology) are another example in which their femininity are important, as they lure men onto the rocks and make them drown. Overall, there are demonstrably sufficient examples of both mythological and fictional monsters that are defined by being female monsters, specifically. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 22:00, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Godzilla characters

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: The category mostly contains monsters, but also contains human character articles like Miki Saegusa. I think that the subject of Godzilla kaiju is still an encyclopedic cross-categorization. This category can be moved to "Godzilla kaiju" and then be made a subcategory of the characters category, which would not be a member of the kaiju parent category. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 14:47, 6 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Defunct football clubs in the Soviet Union

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: This is a category with unclear name – are these articles for football clubs that became defunct during the Soviet Union or football clubs in the Soviet Union that are now defunct? In both cases, the usefulness is limited. All current entries in the category were also from the Ukrainian SSR. Possible second merge target could therefore be Category:Defunct football clubs in Ukraine. Kaffet i halsen (talk) 16:38, 21 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Male mammals

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: Direct contents are entirely individuals, but the image (a local page for File:Bison_bonasus_(Linnaeus_1758).jpg) and subcategories are not. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 09:39, 6 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I thought this category would be just as "encyclopedic" as Category:Men or Category:Individual male horses.
But I'd prefer not to put the word "individual" in these categories' names. We don't need to rename Category:Men to Category:Individual men. Jarble (talk) 17:14, 6 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Commons has different use cases and I'd say that sorting by animal gender may be more useful there for ease of finding specific pictures. In Wikipedia, it must be a defining attribute, so standards are different (and more stringent) for what should and should not be a category. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 22:04, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: This is just a container for articles and categories already in categories for countries and territories around the Indian Ocean. Category:Cricket grounds in the Caribbean

Nominator's rationale: useless intermediate layer, the only content in the Caribbean category is the West Indies child category. In the context of cricket, the name of West Indies is probably more appropriate, per the West Indies cricket team, Cricket West Indies and Category:Cricket in the West Indies. Category:Video games with low poly graphics

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: As per the multiple attempts to merge or delete this category in the past, it suffers from a WP:SUBJECTIVECAT problem as well as an issue where it's not clear that it refers to games intentionally designed to look like a retro 3D game unless one reads the category's description. Theoretically, any PS1 game etc. could fit within this category's current title.
It's also clear, however, that there is consensus this is a useful category. Therefore, I suggest renaming it in a way that it's consistent with Category:Retro-style video games and also makes clear that it's about games with a purposeful 3D retro style. As a bonus, there wouldn't have to be a debate as to what constitutes "low-poly". ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 18:23, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Note: An alternate possible name would be Category:Retro-style video games with 3D graphics. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 18:27, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment This is an interesting proposal and is consistent with its parent category. I still like the current name, but I'd like to know what other editors think. --NoonIcarus (talk) 18:35, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Retro-style 3D is a much vaguer term and will most often be original research. For some, Duke Nukem 3D represents the cutting edge of this group, while for others it's late PS1 games, and for some even PS2 titles. Others would say that boomer shooters or Doom-like (corridor shooters) are retro-style 3D games due to game design. Also it doesn't look that media/sources tend to use the term "retro-style 3D" regularly, and moreover, there is no separate article describing this concept. While "low poly" graphics/games is a commonly used and applied specifically to modern stylisation. It is unlikely that anyone would retrospectively refer to individual games from the 1990s as low-poly games, but it can be said that the entire 3D era was low-poly. And I don't think that means we should put the entire PS1 catalogue here. If really necessary, we could add words like "modern" or "stylisation" to the current name, but I still think this is unnecessary. Solidest (talk) 20:10, 15 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
"Low poly" would be at least as vague if not moreso. If you oppose this I am not sure why you would support keeping it as is. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 04:50, 16 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Fathers of Medicare

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: Category for a non-defining characteristic. These people did not work together collectively to develop Canada's health insurance system, but rather each acted on their own in some capacity in different political bodies at different times, so they don't constitute a defined or organized group that get covered or analyzed in aggregate -- "father of medicare" is just a term that some of them have been labelled with, not an encyclopedically notable concept. Even the "head" article is based entirely on sources that individually ascribe the people with that term rather than sources which cover them all together as a group, so it doesn't demonstrate that there's a categorizable concept here either. • Delete per nominator. The article Father of medicare isn't particularly convincing - each entry has only 1 source to justify them being a "father of medicare". The source for the 4th person, Emmett Hall, is a dead link - it's redirecting to some dodgy-looking poker website. IMO, not enough to justify a category for this. – numbermaniac 12:41, 5 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:May 2023 crimes in Oceania

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: There is only 1 page in the category. I don't think a merge is needed, because the article already exists in another category in the tree, Category:2023 crimes in New Zealand. – numbermaniac 13:20, 4 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Massacres in Albania by communist regime

Category:Ships involved in Operation Crossroads

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: WP:CATNAME
This category is fine but the name could be a little clearer. In 1946, the US Government intentionally sunk surplus WWII ships with atomic bombs but Operation Crossroads also involved a large number of support ships for coordination which were not sunk. The rename just clarifies that this is a subcategory of Category:Shipwrecks by type. - RevelationDirect (talk) 01:30, 4 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Rivers with fish ladders

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: WP:TRIVIALCAT and WP:NONDEFINING
A Fish ladder is a series of pools going up the side of a dam or other structures that allow fish to move past the obstacle. We don't categorize rivers by dams, so it seems trivial to categorize them by an accessory structure and this seems akin to Category:Rivers with bridges. (Incidentally, I went to create a category for the fish ladders themselves, but the only article I found was Pitlochry fish ladder.) - RevelationDirect (talk) 01:30, 4 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Cyberpunk music

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: Nothing seems to reference this anywhere and i'm skeptical there are any unifying properties to cyberpunk _music_ 157.131.68.73 (talk) 17:16, 3 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Most often, cyberpunk music is now understood as a subgenre of synthwave, influenced by EBM and darkwave. However, the internet is also full of ambient mixes with a post-apocalyptic sound that are labeled cyberpunk. The category apparently includes soundtracks to cyberpunk-themed works and various music with a similar aesthetic. Cyberpunk#Music describes music associated with the cyberpunk theme rather than a defined genre. It also seems odd to see Gary Numan’s album there, as his work predates the concept of cyberpunk music in its current sense. Lady Gaga’s album, on the other hand, appears to be included only because of its cover art, with no musical connection at all. I believe that unless there is an article—or at least a section—with reliable sources defining the subject from a musical point of view (beyond simply being “synthesizer-heavy”), it would be better to delete the category. People from dependent territories of the United Kingdom

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: Follow-up to previous discussions 1, 2 and 3: categories about British Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies were merged using the generic name "Dependent territories of the United Kingdom", as what defines these groups of categories is the relation to their sovereign parent country more than the various individual statuses of these territories. • Comment: essentially, this is the same category as the Category:Salon holders from the Russian Empire, and all articles in the later category, can be placed in the former. The only reason there are two categories, is because one user dislike "Russian" and believe it is more correct to use the term "Russian Empire" - and personally, I don't know which category name is most correct. Perhaps Category:Russian salon-holders should be a subcategory of the Category:Salon holders from the Russian Empire and not the other way around, I don't know. Category:Anthropophagy

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: Anthropophage is a specific member of a race of cannibals in Shakespeare's plays, a neologism, and should not be used to refer to human-eaters in general, making this category misleading and unnecessary. It's possible Man-eating animal and its category may have to be merged into Category:Carnivory. The subcategory "mythological anthropophages" should be renamed "Mythological human-eaters" accordingly. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 07:53, 2 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Mythological hematophages

[edit]
Nominator's rationale: "Hematophage" is a scientific term for an actual bloodsucking animal. This risks conflating legend with scientific fact, as drinking blood for nutrients is different than consuming magical "vital essence" of a person. I propose moving it to a non-scientific name. This would also imply removal from Category:Hematophages, which is only for real animals. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 07:44, 2 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
