Question from LiberNubis (05:05, 13 December 2025)
[edit]Hi Gommeh,
I wanted to ask for your perspective on something I’ve been encountering as I work through suggested edits.
I recently spent several hours editing a biography page to bring it closer to Wikipedia’s neutrality and sourcing standards. Although the edits were policy-aligned, much of the material was subsequently rewritten in a way that restored a more promotional or “fan-page” tone, with emphasis on laudatory phrasing, narrative smoothing, and implied significance rather than verifiable contribution.
This has left me wondering whether it is more effective to step back from editing personal pages altogether. At the same time, doing so feels at odds with Wikipedia’s purpose of factually documenting real people and their actual contributions to their fields.
I suspect this experience may be a common one, and that it likely discourages some editors from investing time in biography work for this reason. I’d appreciate your thoughts on whether avoiding personal pages is a sensible editorial choice, or whether there are better strategies for navigating this kind of resistance.
Thank you for your guidance. --LiberNubis (talk) 05:05, 13 December 2025 (UTC)
- You should try to reach consensus on the article's talk page about what should and shouldn't include on the article. That's the best way to navigate these situations because it helps editors with different points of view come to an agreement (consensus). Also if the person in question is still alive or recently deceased, make sure you're read up on WP:BLP. Gommeh 📖 🎮 15:54, 13 December 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for your response.
- I understand the role of talk-page consensus and BLP policy, and I’ve already left a comment on the article’s talk page outlining my concerns. That said, based on this experience, I’ve decided not to continue editing personal biography pages.
- In this case, substantial time was spent aligning the article with Wikipedia’s neutrality and sourcing standards, only for the content to be reverted back toward a more promotional tone. I recognise that this may be a common dynamic, but the likelihood of repeated rewrites makes it difficult to justify further investment of time on this type of article.
- There are many other areas of Wikipedia where careful, policy-aligned work is less likely to be undone and where contributions feel more constructive and sustainable. I’ll be focusing my efforts there.
- Thanks again for taking the time to respond. LiberNubis (talk) 06:28, 14 December 2025 (UTC)

Hello. I have a question regarding translating pages from one language to another. When a translation is done, does the article need to match the original text of the page? I saw pages in other languages which are much shorter on the English Wikipedia but not sure what could be the reason for that. I plan to translate pages from Serbian and Macedonian into English. Thank you. --Butel1 (talk) 09:14, 14 December 2025 (UTC)
- Not really, you need to adapt the page into the standards set by the English Wikipedia. If that means cutting out or changing content that was present in one language, then so be it. Gommeh 📖 🎮 15:04, 14 December 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you. I have one more question regarding content which could be defamatory. Based in what I read in the instructions, the source of the content if a person BLP can send an email to wikipedia. How about when the source of the BLP does not know that the article exists, should an author here send an email, or flag the content for someone to check? Butel1 (talk) 21:38, 14 December 2025 (UTC)
- I generally don't write a whole lot about BLPs, but I doubt we'd send the person an email. If they cared enough, they'd take the initiative and either make the edit themselves or, perhaps more appropriately, make a request through the talk page per WP:COIEDIT. [edit]Hi, after i publish how long will i have to wait for the approval? --Yilishu330WIKI (talk) 19:41, 14 December 2025 (UTC)

Thanks for the revert on my edit
[edit]Hey, thanks for reverting my seemingly ill-adviced edit that removed Aloy from the "related" row in Template:Genshin Impact .
Now, I removed that after I couldn't find any indication of the relationship in the Genshin Impact article, which is the only place that the template is used. So, could you please add a sentence mentioning Aloy and a source for that to the Genshin Impact article that readers could refer to? Thank you! MüllerMarcus (talk) 22:25, 14 December 2025 (UTC)
- I'm not really sure that would be WP:DUE, since the collab was relatively minor in terms of scale and importance to the game. Gommeh 📖 🎮 23:03, 14 December 2025 (UTC)

Regarding Khalil Nasim
[edit]I saw that you noted my article as 'obvious COI'. I am the artist in the article; I created the article for the sake of making historical record of my career and community efforts. I feel that the COI tag implies that I'm creating the article for personal gain or acclaim, which is not true. Can we have further discussion around the legitimacy of the article, and what you think would constitute my article not being considered as COI? The comment you left initially didn't really help me at all with how to make my article better. Khllnsm (talk) 16:58, 17 December 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately our COI guidelines specify that you should not create an article about yourself, nor should you be editing it in general if there is one. The reasoning behind this is that we all have an implicit, subconscious bias towards painting ourselves in a good light, which violates Wikipedia's policy on biographies of living people as well as neutral points of view. This is done to preserve our editorial integrity. For example, we don't want political candidates being able to remove negative things about them right before an election now would we? The COI tag has nothing to do with personal gain or acclaim, only that a significant contributor to the article (you) is related to the subject (also you). The best thing to do right now I think is to read Wikipedia:BLPSELF. Additionally, you may want to make sure you've read Wikipedia:Autobiography. Gommeh 📖 🎮 17:04, 17 December 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for the timely and complete reply. I've read the help/guideline sections you sent and still feel very dissatisfied & unresolved in this matter.
- I really would like to contest the standards required to post an article for musicians. I believe it is incorrect to assume that an artist who doesn't meet these specific guidelines is not fit to have a public, accessible article posted on this site. After all, Wikipedia's purpose "is to benefit readers by acting as a widely accessible and free encyclopedia; a comprehensive written compendium that contains information on all branches of knowledge" ... right? What benefit is it to limit information based on what is "notable"? Would the outcome be any different if someone else wrote the article and posted it the same as I did?
- Local music is one of the last living and breathing forms of revolutionary art. In every city, local musicians define the culture of their area and largely carry the weight of local entertainment on their backs in both small and large municipalities. Guidelines like the ones outlined in WP:NMUSIC seem to disproportionately impact local musicians. I see political and otherwise informative articles all the time with much less information listed out than what I offered in my article, which has now been moved to drafts.
- It's also incorrect to assume that an artist cannot tell their own history without being biased one way or the other. If the resources are available but nobody has cared enough to search for them, compile them, and then share them on Wikipedia, who should do them?
- Is there any way I can make my petition with the 'higher-ups' of Wikipedia to push for more representation and inclusive guidelines for local art? Khllnsm (talk) 19:00, 17 December 2025 (UTC)
- You should discuss that on WT:COI. Gommeh 📖 🎮 19:07, 17 December 2025 (UTC)
