Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests

If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request a technical move below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."
- Please make sure you really need technical assistance before making a request here. In particular, if the target page is a redirect back to the source page that has only one revision, you can usually move the page normally.
- To list a technical request: the Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.
{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}
- To request a reversion of a recent undiscussed move: Review the guidelines at WP:RMUM of whether a reversion of an undiscussed move qualifies as uncontroversial and if so, the Requests to revert undiscussed moves subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page. Note that in some cases, clerks, such as administrators or page movers may determine that your request for a reversion does not pass the criteria and may move the request to the contested section or open a formal requested move discussion for potentially controversial moves on your behalf.
{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}
- If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page. A bot will automatically remove contested requests after 72 hours of inactivity.

[edit]- Itene language → Moré language (currently a redirect instead to Mooré) (move · discuss) – WP:COMMONNAME 🪐Kepler-1229b | talk | contribs🪐 20:34, 21 November 2025 (UTC)
- The proposed title currently redirects to Mooré, which is also known as Moré. At first glance, this is a justified primary redirect. 162 etc. (talk) 20:41, 21 November 2025 (UTC)
- Mad at You (Joe Jackson Band song) → Mad at You (currently a redirect instead to Noah Cyrus) (move · discuss) – That's because the song by English musician Joe Jackson's considered to be the primary topic (both song and in general) with that name, because it has more than double the number of pageviews of the American singer Noah Cyrus's song of the same name, which doesn't have a non-redirect article yet. PK2 (talk; contributions) 23:35, 23 November 2025 (UTC)
- Postal service of North Korea → North Korean Postal Service (currently a redirect back to Postal service of North Korea) (move · discuss) – Exact name confirmed in UPU S108 standard International Mail Processing Centre (IMPC) codes, open offices. The page would move back to its original name "North Korean Postal Service". Original redirect page need to be deleted for the moving back. {{{sig}}}HCCB3947 (talk) 13:07, 25 November 2025 (UTC)

- Template:NASCAR Xfinity Series Championship → Template:NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series Championship (currently a redirect back to Template:NASCAR Xfinity Series Championship) (move · discuss) – The series title sponsorship changes from Xfinity to O'Reilly Auto Parts starting in 2026. Somebody added a redirect to the "NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series Championship" title early before the 2025 season (with Xfinity title sponsorship) ended and therefore the template can't be moved. Now that the season is over, the template should be moved to this new title and the redirect to it should be removed. Cavanaughs (talk) 20:29, 25 November 2025 (UTC)

Requests to revert undiscussed moves

- Source Code (film) → Source Code (move · discuss) – The film was at Source Code for many years and recently got moved to Source Code (film) just because Source Code (memoir) exists, but the film continued to be the primary topic in terms of pageviews until the undiscussed move happened. I am not seeing "revert" in the move log to do it myself, so I would like to request technical help to do that and have the editor start a proper RM discussion. - Early Times (company) → Early Times (move · discuss) – User has created the article Early Times (newspaper), then declared the article on the company as not the primary topic, creating an disambiguation page at Early Times. I believe an RM would be better? The editor probably doesn't know about primary topics. --pro-anti-air ––>(talk)<–– 04:43, 26 November 2025 (UTC)
- Oh, the move might be slightly harder for tools as Early Times has non-redirecting content, and should be moved to Early Times (disambiguation) (if the article Early Times (newspaper) is deemed notable) --pro-anti-air ––>(talk)<–– 04:47, 26 November 2025 (UTC)
- I'm not sure we need a disambiguation page for this WP:TWODABS situation. We don't normally have one when there is a primary topic and only two topics. Incidentally, Early Times (company) is about a (whisky) brand, not a company. There may have once been a company (or a dba) by that name, although the article doesn't say there was, but that has not been the name of the company for at least a century. — BarrelProof (talk) 06:36, 26 November 2025 (UTC)

- National Bank of Austria (currently a redirect to Austrian National Bank) → Austrian National Bank (move · discuss) – literal translation into English, in line with established practice for most national central banks User:Boubloub (talk) 11:23, 21 November 2025 (UTC)
- @Boubloub given the page move history, this needs a move discussion Polyamorph (talk) 16:11, 22 November 2025 (UTC)
- Given that this was only recently moved from Oesterreichische Nationalbank, I'm not seeing that the extant title had any particular privelege. But then again, nobody has said they support Oesterreichische Nationalbank recently either, so in the spirit of WP:NOGOODOPTIONS, I've made the requested move. Ngrams show that Austrian National Bank > Oesterreichische National Bank > National Bank of Austria in usage, so this seems best absent any other discussion. But if there's any objection we can revert to Oesterreichische Nationalbank and start an RM from there, as the stable title. — Amakuru (talk) 14:32, 25 November 2025 (UTC)

- Esso women's hockey nationals → Abby Hoffman Cup (currently a redirect instead to Canadian women's ice hockey history#Abby Hoffman Cup) (move · discuss) – following the style for other hockey cup competitions like the Stanley Cup or Allan Cup, this page should be the "Abby Hoffman Cup" - especially considering that Esso was not even the tournament's sponsor for the initial five years (the Cup competition was contested for just 28 years from 1982 to 2019 Rscott187 (talk) 23:01, 23 November 2025 (UTC)
- @Rscott187, this is not the correct venue to request a page move which needs a discussion. The proposed name "Abby Hoffman Cup" is the name of a trophy, not the correct name of national playoffs. The current redirect to Canadian women's ice hockey history might also need discussed as it overlaps with Esso women's hockey nationals. Please consider WP:RM and discussing at WP:HOCKEY. - Similar to the referenced RM, this should also go through RM for moving dab away from base name. I see the support for the move but Talk:CFF wasn't notified of the discussion so it's hardly conclusive as consensus. CNC (talk) 17:23, 24 November 2025 (UTC)

- Sufi whirling → Whirling dervishes (currently a redirect instead to Mevlevi Order) (move · discuss) – The current title is bizarre as anything and totally unnatural. Ngram ahows Whirling dervishes is an absurdly common name for this subject. I happened on this page by chance having first become extremely confused at the lack of a Whirling dervish page (there were some odd previous redirects to Mevlevi). The topic is quite painfully and awkwardly mislabelled at present, with the main image captions mentioning Whirling dervishes, and almost all the sources referencing dervishes in some capacity. Iskandar323 (talk) 19:45, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
- It's surprising that the well-known history of the Whirling dervish does not have an article under that distinct title. I wonder if this situation was caused by confusion over using nouns or adjectives in article titles, whether singular or plural should be used, whether both words should be capitalized, and whether the Sufi connection should be prioritized. In addition to the articles and redirects mentioned by the requester, we also have an existing article at Dervish, with the Whirling dervish described briefly with a hatnote link to the current Sufi whirling. Various redirects have proliferated in all directions. I think this situation requires more discussion than a simple request here to rename a couple of pages. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 20:26, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
- The nominator just changed the target of this redirect and the target of the Whirling Dervishes redirect. I just reverted those changes. These had been stable redirects to a different topic for more than 15 years, and Whirling dervish and Whirling Dervish still redirect to the other place, and they have also been stable for more than 15 years too. This doesn't seem like a mere "technical" request. The Mevlevi Order article has "whirling dervishes" in boldface in its opening paragraph, reflecting its longstanding use as the redirect target for all four variants of the term. The proposal might have merit, but that is not obvious. — BarrelProof (talk) 23:27, 25 November 2025 (UTC)

- The same nominator proposed moving the same article to the same title before. The record can be found at Talk:Television Shin-Hiroshima#Requested move 4 December 2024. The declared conclusion was to not move the article to that title. I don't understand why the nominator now thinks moving it there would be uncontroversial. — BarrelProof (talk) 06:25, 26 November 2025 (UTC)
