Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed! Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Timtrent was:
This draft's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article. In summary, the draft needs multiple published sources that are:
in-depth (not just passing mentions about the subject)
Make sure you add references that meet these criteria before resubmitting. Learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue. If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.
The comment the reviewer left was:
This is a woefully inadequate list and is for Schott's Miscellany, not Wikipedia
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved.
If you would like to continue working on the submission, go to Draft:List of common surnames in Africa and click on the "Edit" tab at the top of the window.
If you do not edit your draft in the next 6 months, it will be considered abandoned and may be deleted.

Hello, I'm Materialscientist. I noticed that in this edit to Party All the Time, you removed content without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Materialscientist (talk) 22:16, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Anne McLellan, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Bill Blair. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

My bad. I did not see the notice. It wasn't intentional, I assumed it was an official portrait because of the American flag at the back and Nauta's status as a federal employee. Bremps...00:03, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! I had a query/request for you. According do Wiki's page creation policy, a article must have citations to support it, according to my understanding. I came across a page, K. Annamalai which is with regard to a erstwhile Member of the Legislative Assembly (India) in India all the way in 2001. Th entire article has only two references and the personality is hardly prominent too. Frankly, I don't see this article having any relevance on Wikipedia. Hence, I would be grateful, if you could give me your opinion on this being an experienced editor, and perhaps nominate it for speedy deletion. Thank you! ChaitanyaJo (talk) 13:30, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It does not appear to be notable. It seems to be fairly routine coverage of election results. Earlier, I had linked several sources, but that was a different K Annamalai.
I would recommend nominating it for deletion. Happy editing!
Thanks for replying. I had asked this same question to another admin. He replied that, apparently K. Annamalai is presumed to be notable on wikipedia per WP:NPOL. What do you think? I found you here. ChaitanyaJo (talk) 16:06, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I was mistaken; we should follow policy here then. I do believe the policy may be unreasonable during times, though. Cheers! Bremps...16:11, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that your recent edit to Internet minute did not have an edit summary. You can use the edit summary field to explain your reasoning for an edit, or to provide a description of what the edit changes. Summaries save time for other editors and reduce the chances that your edit will be misunderstood. For some edits, an adequate summary may be quite brief.
One of the rules with PROD tags is: PROD is one-shot only: It must not be used for pages PRODed before or previously discussed at AfD or FfD. By the way, thanks for self-reverting after you read the talk page.-- Toddy1(talk)06:18, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for uploading File:Tetsuya Yamagami in high school.webp. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
Thanks for uploading File:Lil Tay, child rapper.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. The article Thinzar Shunlei Yi you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Thinzar Shunlei Yi for comments about the article, and Talk:Thinzar Shunlei Yi/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has never appeared on the Main Page as a "Did you know" item, and has not appeared within the last year either as "Today's featured article", or as a bold link under "In the news" or in the "On this day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear at DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On this day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. thanks for removing that image but also saying that you will add one later. i am not exactly an expert on when free use and when not, especially when you fully disclose that the image is in faact copyrighted and you document everything in the upload. i thought i followed all the steps, but if you could help then i could refer to this article and this image for future use by just viewing the history for the future. thanks Iljhgtn (talk) 14:26, 20 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Iljhgtn Don't sweat it. Usually, we can only use fair use in circumstances where a free image cannot be produced. For instance, the Notorious B.I.G and Sana'a Mehaidli died without anyone taking a freely licensed image of them, so we use a fair use image on their page. Similarly, Richard Reid and David Berkowitz are both in jail for the rest of their lives, so no one can take a free photo of them. Jho Low is a fugitive, and no one knows where he is, so he also has a fair use photo on his page (since no one can locate him to take a free picture).
Guernica, the Picasso painting, is also under copyright (Picasso's), so we use a fair use image. Any image of Guernica would be under Picasso's copyright, so no freely licensed images can be taken.
On the other hand, Aella is very much alive, and giving high-profile interviews, so we can't upload a fair use image for her. Furthermore, there are freely licensed images of her (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPWiIz6UYs8&ab_channel=ReasonTV) so we definitely can't apply fair use.
Does that mean we are free to take a screenshot from that video? if so, what is the best way to do that? Pause it and screen shot then use the upload wizard and follow all of the promotps? Iljhgtn (talk) 18:25, 20 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You can filter by "Creative Commons licenses" under "Usage Rights" under "Tools" if you use Google Images. In Flickr, toggle from "Any license" to "Commercial use allowed".
For the second part of your question, yes. That means they released it under a CC-BY 3.0 unported license, which means we are free to take a screenshot and use it how we wish (after uploading it on Commons with UploadWizard). Cheers, Bremps...00:10, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

However, I do have a concern: saying the copyright holder "has not expressed an interest" in relicensing the file might be a bit ambiguous because it could either mean they declined or simply didn't respond. I'm thinking there could be an optional details parameter for documenting our interaction with the copyright holder. Thoughts? Ixfd64 (talk) 07:10, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Live and learn, I suppose. The primary reason I removed the information was because I didn't think it was relevant, though. It also was not cited. Bremps...08:49, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My apologies. I could reopen the discussion at DYK if you would like. Outside of the rarity issue, I'm not sold on height hooks (which would also open the door to making a hook about a short person). Bremps...05:25, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for reconsidering, apologizing, and the offer. I'm ok with the bottom line--if you still dislike the height hook, as I would have been with a consensus disagreeing with me as to whether (for a reason I'm unclear on) 0.001% meets the hookiness standard at WP: that it "be likely to be perceived as unusual or intriguing by readers with no special knowledge or interest." That's uncommonly unusual.
And I thought the other commenter's comments were bizarre. He claimed his reason was that it was not unusual (which you unfortunately incorrectly supported - by inflating its usualness 100-fold.
I would appreciate you correcting the record back there, where you made a good-faith mistake supporting his thinking, as the number of such women in Australia appears to be about 12,870 fewer than what you stated.
Beyond that, I'm OK with your hook, if you still maintain that 0.001% is not "unusual."
It's pretty unusual, but I'm still tripped up on the intriguing part. I don't think it leaves the reader wanting to know more of the person. I'll concede the point on the verified list of shortest people, though. Bremps...15:13, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. Thanks for your response. I would note that the wp hookiness standard, linked to above is not that the hook needs to be "unusual and intriguing" -- which would be the only case in which one might get tripped up as to whether the hook is intriguing. The wp standard is, rather, "unusual" or intriguing." Thus, the hook meets the wp hookiness standard if .. as you note is the case .. the hook is unusual. 2603:7000:2101:AA00:D4D7:86F5:5AC:BD5F (talk) 20:29, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
The process will have a one week call for candidates phase, a one week pause to set up SecurePoll, a three-day period of public discussion, followed by 7 days of no public discussion and a private vote using SecurePoll.
The outcomes of this process are identical to making requests for adminship. There is no official difference between an administrator appointed through RFA or administrator elections.
Ask any questions about the process at the talk page. A separate user talk message will be sent to official candidates with additional information about the process.
To avoid sending too many messages, this will be the last mass message sent about administrator elections. If you are interested in the process, please make sure to watchlist the appropriate pages. A watchlist notice will be added when the discussion phase opens, and again when the voting phase opens.

Hi @Bremps, I would like to nominate the article 2024 Kolkata rape and murder as a GA.
Since, I haven't made significant edits on this article, I would like to take your consent for the same as per WP:GAN/I#N1.
On October 25, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close again to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote tallies cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's tally during the election. The suffrage requirements are different from those at RFA.
Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for an indeterminate amount of time, perhaps a week or two. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose). As this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").
Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
Women in Religion have a monthly virtual edit-a-thon and the next session is December 2nd 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. CST. For Zoom meeting details, contact Dzingle1 or RosPost. Women in Red members are welcome to join the Zoom Meeting here
Tip of the month:
Think of rewarding contributors, especially newcomers, with a barnstar.

It's supported by the citation. Will add the quote.
Feel free to correct that paragraph to your liking.
Addendum: the quote was already there. Changed "may pose security threats" to "pose security risks" (risks already implying a "may). The citation also provides reasons why Coristine and Elez must not have had any clearance.
I only added it in to illustrate my reasoning. I personally do not have an opinion on what constitutes a reasonable limit (or whether there should be any at all) on amount of dollars spent on political speech. It's just that Wikipedia using the term "reasonable" for his proposal implies that there is an objectively reasonable or unreasonable policy. I neither like nor dislike Simpson as a man. That’s fair. If you don’t have an opinion on policy, nor like or dislike Simpson, that is good. However, it is still advised that you use better language in your edit summaries. Jlktutu (talk) 04:08, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
When creating biographies, don't forget to use Template:DEFAULTSORT. Accessible from "Wiki markup" at the foot of the page being edited, it allows categories to be listed under the subject's family name rather than their first or given name.
The Jewish Cemetery is an oil-on-canvas painting by the Dutch landscape painter Jacob van Ruisdael. Painted in 1654 or 1655, it is an allegorical landscape painting suggesting ideas of hope and death, while also being based on Beth Haim, a cemetery located on Amsterdam's southern outskirts, at the town of Ouderkerk aan de Amstel. Beth Haim is a resting place for some prominent figures among Amsterdam's large Jewish Portuguese community in the 17th century. Ruisdael presents the cemetery as a landscape variant of a vanitas painting, employing deserted tombs, ravaged churches, stormy clouds, dead trees, changing skies, and flowing water to symbolize death and the transience of all earthly things. The known provenance for the painting dates back only to 1739 and its original owner is not documented; since 1926, it has been owned by the Detroit Institute of Arts.

24 Mar 2025: 20.070% (2,057,083 bios; 412,857 women)
Tip of the month:
Those of you who experience harassment while trying to create or improve articles about women are welcome to bring your problems to our attention on the Women in Red talk page.
You have recently edited a page related to India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

DYK for List of accidents and incidents involving Robert Mugabe's motorcade
Who are the most overlooked and interesting Women in Red? We've no idea, but we're putting together our list of the 100 most interesting ex-Women in Red. We are creating the list to celebrate 10 years of Women in Red and we hope to present it at Wikimania. We are ignoring the obvious, so do you have a name or subject we should consider? Can you suggest a DYK style hook? If you are shy about editing that page, you are welcome to add ideas and comments on the talk page.

On 7 July 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Jeannie Rice, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Jeannie Rice went from running to lose weight to running to set world records? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Jeannie Rice. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Jeannie Rice), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. The administrator elections process has officially started! Interested editors are encouraged to self-nominate or arrange to be nominated by reviewing the instructions at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/July 2025/Candidates.
Here is the schedule:
July 9–15 - Call for candidates
July 18–22 - Discussion phase
July 23–29 - SecurePoll voting phase
Please note the following:
The requirements to run are identical to RFA—a prospective candidate must be extended confirmed.
The process will have a seven day call for candidates phase, a two day pause, a five day discussion phase, and a seven day private vote using SecurePoll. Discussion and questions are only allowed on the candidate pages during the discussion phase.
The outcome of this process is identical to making a request for adminship. There is no official difference between an administrator appointed through RFA versus administrator elections.
Ask any questions about the process at the talk page. A separate user talk message will be sent to official candidates with additional information about the process.
If you are interested in the process, please make sure to watchlist the appropriate pages. A watchlist notice will be added when the discussion phase opens, and again when the voting phase opens.

On July 23, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close again to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's totals during the election. You must be extended confirmed to vote.
Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last approximately four days, or perhaps a little longer. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (you may want to watchlist this page) and transcluded to the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and must also have received a minimum of 20 support votes. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").
Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

Researching historical women writers who used pseudonyms requires careful investigation across multiple sources, as many women adopted pen names to avoid gender bias and judgment (e.g., being labeled a bluestocking) and, ultimately, to get published.
The RFC phase of the July 2025 administrator elections has started. There are 10 RFCs for consideration. You can participate in the RFC phase at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/July 2025/RFCs.
