Subsections
[edit]OMG do we really need 29 subsections of benefits of drawbacks, many of which are just a couple of sentences long? This is horribly organized, and even the titles of these creep towards original research. I suggest we create a section of Benefits, and then a difference section of Drawbacks and then try to cluster more intelligently within each. --ZimZalaBim talk 20:41, 17 February 2022 (UTC)
- It looks like most of the disorganization was caused by a since-banned editor named Ward330 who made several unexplained major edits on November 29 and January 29-31. I've restore some of the old section headings. Jade Ten (talk) 20:00, 18 May 2022 (UTC)
- Under "Potential Drawbacks and Concerns" there's a section titled "Negative aspects of remote work". Just to be clear, it's a real shock to read that negative aspects might be a potential drawback or concern(!) Why is it there, this redundancy? 92.40.197.220 (talk) 08:05, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
- This is 3 years later, but I'm going to take a shot at cutting some of these sentence only sections out for lack of notability. 2A02:C7E:205B:3D00:CDAD:F84A:B8A:419F (talk) 19:18, 13 May 2025 (UTC)

Proposed merge of Distributed workforce into Remote work
[edit]Distributed workforce seems like remote work from a more corporate perspective. The text sort of reads like an MBA's class project but maybe there's something useful to move over. The list of sources at the end seems potentially useful. Apocheir (talk) 20:43, 9 November 2023 (UTC)

Hybrid working from home improves retention without damaging performance
[edit]Saw an interesting piece in Nature by Bloom, N., Han, R. & Liang, J. Hybrid working from home improves retention without damaging performance. Nature (2024). https://doi-org.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org/10.1038/s41586-024-07500-2
Their conclusion is that remote work does not make performance better or worse. It leaves leave performance unchanged. What hybrid working does do is reduce attrition, because remote work is seen as a perk with reduced commuting and easier child-care. Derek J Moore (talk) 22:12, 15 June 2024 (UTC)
Remote work myth (accessibility problem)
[edit]It would be worth to mention that remote work is unavailable for the majority of people. Only very specialised positions are available with very high demands and a lot of experience is required. It's also worth to mention "hidden remote work market", where only closest people related to company management or its family are allowed to work remotely or at least you have to be already experienced employer of this company. Added subsection on use of third workplaces (cafés, libraries, cultural venues) as remote work environments, citing MIT and SHRM studies.
[edit]Remote workers often use third workplaces—spaces such as cafés, libraries, or cultural venues—as alternatives to home or office environments. Studies indicate that a substantial proportion of remote work hours take place in such locations, highlighting their role in hybrid work practices.[1][2] WorkEverywhere (talk) 15:49, 25 September 2025 (UTC)

Proposed merge of Return to office into Remote work
[edit]The article Return to office is quite short, and the first half of it repeats information that's already in Remote work § History. The other half more or less repeats items from Remote work § Potential benefits and Remote work § Potential drawbacks and concerns and applies them to the question whether return to office is desirable for employers and/or employees.
Return to office is a case of WP:NOPAGE: Its content is more useful and less redundant if it's presented in the context of Remote work.
I can think of two ways to handle the merge (omitting the redundant info about the history of remote work):
- Merge each sentence / paragraph of Return to office into the appropriate subsection of Remote work § Potential benefits and Remote work § Potential drawbacks and concerns.
- Move the content of Return to office into a new top-level section, e.g. Remote work § Return to office.

- Oppose - RTO is a notable subtopic of Remote Work that has sufficient ongoing coverage to justify its own article.GobsPint (talk) 05:28, 27 October 2025 (UTC)
