Marvarman

[edit]

The Pandya leader Marvarman was expanded to 'Arikesari Parankusa Maravarman'. I've changed this to Arikesari Maravarman Nindraseer Nedumaaran, as he was the Maravarman who was a contemporary of Paramesvaravarman, based on Pandya Kingdom. Jihg 19:21, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Battle of Peruvalanallur, 674 CE

The Battle of Peruvalanallur was a significant conflict in 7th-century South India, fought between the Pallava and Chalukya dynasties.

Chalukya king Vikramaditya I seems to have pushed on to the south, where he was opposed by the Pandya king Kochadaiyan, and near Trichinopoly a battle was fought at Peruvalanallur as well as at Mangalapuram and Marudur. Pallava and Pandya records equally claim that in this battle the Chalukya was defeated. Vikramaditya evidently had now against him a combination of Pallavas, Pandyas and Cholas. The Pallavas, under King Parameshwaravarman I, defeated the Chalukyan forces led by Vikramaditya I, at Peruvalanallur, a village near Uraiyur in present-day Tamil Nadu. This victory marked a crucial point in the Pallava-Chalukya rivalry, with the Pallavas regaining their autonomy.
