Funny, I thought I had seen an article about the same topic but with its English name. But maybe I am thinking of something else. Anyways, if it is discovered in the future they can be merged.. Baristarim 11:56, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing about the Imperial Library

[edit]

... as predecessor. Obvious break (secular, republican), different city, but still! No article about Imperial Library either. Arminden (talk) 13:38, 9 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I see there was no such library, in spite of enWiki having this term used on 3 different pages. It must be determined what they refere to in each case.
A 100% RS here:

I checked: every time an "Istanbul Imperial Library" is mentioned, it's about its alleged "chief", Sabri Kalkandelen (1862–1943). (The term "Ottoman Imperial Library" never occurs on enWiki, I've checked.) Maybe the term was used in the time of a particular sultan who established a library, but maybe not. Abdülhamid II had a centralised catalogue of all "endowed libraries" be put together, and he "gathered together a very rich collection of sources in Yıldız Palace. Another library called the Ottoman Public Library (Kütübhane-i Umumi-i Osmani), which was to function much like the modern-day National Library, was established in June 1884, but it did not function as anticipated."
Interesting topic and should be clarified. Arminden (talk) 14:33, 9 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
