Updates and minor clean-up

[edit]

Hi editors, there are a few other items in the article I'd like to address that are outdated.

  • In the infobox section on terrestrial availability, it lists Selective TV in Minnesota. It's not really clear why that is there and there is no source supporting its inclusion. I suggest removing it.
  • In the introduction, it currently says It does not have advertisements on any of its television networks or radio stations, nor does it solicit donations or pledges on-air. This is no longer true, C-SPAN does solicit donations, so I suggest removing nor does it solicit donations or pledges on-air.
  • As a corollary, in C-SPAN#Public_and_media_opinion, it says The ability of C-SPAN to provide this service without federal funding, advertising or soliciting viewer contributions has been remarked by local newspapers and online news services, with the Daily Beast terming C-SPAN's $55 million annual budget (in 2009), "an astounding bargain." I propose that immediately after that a sentence be added about the solicitation of donations, something like In April 2024, C-SPAN began soliciting donations from individuals to support its operations.[1][2]
  • In C-SPAN#Public_affairs, it says Coverage of presidential campaign events are provided during the duration of the campaign, both by a weekly television program, Road to the White House, and at its dedicated politics website. Road to the White House is now simply called Campaign (YEAR), e.g. Campaign 2024, as shown by the website, and source 47 is a deadlink. The external link there is the correct link. Can that be updated?
  • In C-SPAN#Camera_access, can we add something about efforts to get cameras in the Supreme Court? Something like C-SPAN has requested televised camera access for arguments before the United States Supreme Court. Its requests have been denied or ignored by the court.[3][4]
  • In the second paragraph of C-SPAN#C-SPAN_and_C-SPAN2_flagship_programs, it says Book TV is 48 hours of programming. This is no longer the case. It is Sundays only now per the show's page on the C-SPAN website. I propose updating the article to reflect that.
  • In C-SPAN#Audience it says More than 7,000 telephone callers have participated with discussion on Washington Journal as of March 18, 2009. Can that be changed to As of 2020, more than 20,000 telephone callers participate annually in discussions on Washington Journal. using this source[5]
  • In C-SPAN#Audience, can we add a bullet point on a 2021 poll to expand this section, something like A 2021 Ipsos poll showed the number of C-SPAN consumers had increased by approximately 20 percent from 2017.[6]
  • In C-SPAN#Other_services, can we note that the bus program has ended, per this Politico article? Specifically based on this quote "with enough left over for educational ventures like the C-SPAN bus… The bus was quietly mothballed."
