Franz Hasil (born 28 July 1944 in Vienna) is a former Austrian football player. He played as midfielder mainly for SK Rapid Wien and SK Austria Klagenfurt. He also played for the Austrian national football team.

Franz Hasil began his career at 1. Schwechater SC . At the age of 18 he moved to SK Rapid Wien at the age of 18. He is considered one of the best technicians the club has ever produced.

In 1968, he moved to Germany to join FC Schalke 04. There he stayed for only one season. He finished seventh in the Bundesliga with Schalke, scoring five goals in 25 matches. Schalke also reached the 1968/69 DFB-Pokal final. Hasil was not used in the 2-1 defeat to FC Bayern.

In 1969, Franz Hasil moved to the Netherlands to join Feyenoord Rotterdam, then coached by Austrian Ernst Happel. There, the striker became the first Austrian to win the European Cup, the Intercontinental Cup in 1970, and the Dutch championship title in 1971. He was voted the best foreign player of all time in the Netherlands.

At the end of his career, Franz Hasil returned to Austria. He played for Austria Klagenfurt and SV St. Veit. In the summer of 1977, he made a transfer to lower-league club Polizei Klagenfurt. In the 1980/81 season, he played for SV Spittal. In the 1981/82 season he signed for First Vienna FC.

International

Franz Hasil made a total of 21 appearances for the Austrian national team, scoring two goals. He made his international debut on 27 October 1963, in Budapest against Hungary. He played his last game for Austria on November 13, 1974, in a 1-0 away win against Turkey in Istanbul. [1]

In July 1979, he passed an examination as a licensed trainer. [3]After the end of his playing career, Hasil moved into coaching. He coached at Vienna, SVL Flavia Solva, Wiener Sport-Club, UFC Stotzing, SC Siebenhirten and the Rapid Vienna youth team.
