Emb Hashmi is a British journalist, broadcaster, and entrepreneur. She has worked across multiple BBC platforms, including BBC News, BBC Radio 4, BBC World Service, and BBC Five Live, covering stories on faith, identity, and social affairs. Hashmi is the founder of Storytelling for CEOs, an executive education platform that integrates artificial intelligence with leadership storytelling. She has been recognised by the Asian Media Awards, the Asian Achievers Awards, and The Muslim News Awards for Excellence, and was a speaker at TEDxAstonUniversity in 2025.[1][2][3][4][5]

Early life and education

Hashmi was born and raised in Birmingham, England.[2] She studied media and communication before beginning her journalism career in regional newsrooms. She later joined the BBC, working across several national outlets including BBC News, BBC Radio 4, BBC World Service, BBC Five Live, and BBC Sport.[1]

Career

Hashmi has spent over a decade reporting on social affairs, religion, and community issues. Her journalism has included coverage of stories focusing on faith, belonging, and underrepresented communities in the United Kingdom.[1] In 2023, she founded Storytelling for CEOs, an AI-integrated executive storytelling platform that combines cinematic teaching methods with leadership training. The programme aims to help founders, executives, and entrepreneurs communicate with authenticity and emotional intelligence.[1] Hashmi has spoken at business and leadership events across the UK and internationally, including at Aston University’s TEDxAstonUniversity: Rethinking Tomorrow in October 2025.[3]

Hashmi’s journalism and community storytelling have been recognised through multiple award nominations. In 2025, she was shortlisted for Regional Journalist of the Year at the Asian Media Awards.[4] She was also a finalist for Media Person of the Year at the Asian Achievers Awards.[5] Hashmi was recognised by the Muslim News Awards for Excellence for her work in broadcasting and community storytelling.[6]

Personal life

Hashmi is based in Birmingham and has one son.[2]
