Jeung Yoon-chae (Hangul: 정윤채; born December 6, 2007), known by the name Yoonchae, is a South Korean singer who lives in Los Angeles, California. She is a member of the girl group Katseye, which started on June 28, 2024. The group was made under Hybe UMG and Geffen Records after the global talent show Dream Academy in 2023.[1]

Early life

She was born in Seoul, South Korea, on December 6, 2007.[2] She has an older sister who taught her about makeup.[3]

Before HYBE

[change | change source]

Yoonchae started training to be a K-pop singer when she was 12 years old.[4] She trained for two years at WakeOne before moving to HYBE in 2023.[2]

Before formally becoming a trainee, Yoonchae admired K‑pop and performing from a very young age — she was drawn to the genre not just for its choreography and production, but because she loved performing itself, and looked up to artists like BTS and IU when she was growing up.[5]

2023–present: Dream Academy and Katseye

[change | change source]

In 2023, Yoonchae joined the global audition show The Debut: Dream Academy. The show was made by HYBE and Geffen Records to create a new international girl group.[6] She came in fourth place in the final episode and became a member of the group Katseye.[7]

Katseye's first song, "Debut", came out on June 28, 2024. It was also in their first extended play (EP) SIS (Soft Is Strong). Katseye's EP is Beautiful Chaos. [8]

Before their official debut, the members of Katseye moved to Los Angeles to train together as part of the development process after The Debut: Dream Academy. Yoonchae described Los Angeles as a meaningful place where she met the other members and where the group continues to build memories and train for global activities.[9]
