This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Science. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Science|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Science. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information

Badly sourced page created many years ago by non-experts. It is a WP:Coatrack of topics which are covered much better in other articles that have been written and maintained by topic experts. I would merge the history elsewhere (perhaps), beyond that I don't think much else is worth saving. I would just redirect to X-ray scattering and adjust the template used. Comment, I did not want to bloat the nom. This is within my core competence, although more as teaching the basics to BS/PhD students. The detection of x-rays in electron microscopes is a big topic, and we have many articles on aspects of this. There are also some articles on x-ray emission which is another standard technique. The short sections on detectors is very, very weak, and many others are deficient as well. I contemplated WP:BEBOLD and just blank/redirect, but decided to start a discussion. A weak alternative to redirect would be to truncation to just a type of disambiguation page. I strongly believe the term is not the right one to keep, even though you can find it if you do a search -- more common usage is the different terms in the coats (on the rack).Ldm1954 (talk)
- Keep but replace the "coatrack" with a short list article such as the version on German Wikipedia. We need a top-level article on the topic, just as we have on Spectroscopy, much of which is a list article. Something useful needs to come up for a search on the topic. The alternative would be a disambiguation page, but a list article provides more information for inexperienced readers. I come from a field that does X-ray spectroscopy in the classic sense, using a grating to disperse them like a prism, and uses this term to describe it. - Keep per StarryGrandma. I like the idea of converting the page to a disambiguation or "short list" as in the German article as well. The term is commonly (mis)used enough that an article of some type is needed, even if the article we now have isn't very good. WeirdNAnnoyed (talk) 11:28, 25 November 2025 (UTC)
