The Volkswagen Up, often written Volkswagen up!, is a city car produced by the Volkswagen Group from 2011 to 2023.
Name
[change | change source]The name "up!" was taken from the prototype of the same name and is derived from the middle letters of the previous Volkswagen Lupo model. A tactic that was repeated in the Volkswagen Iroc prototype, which also borrows the middle letters from the name of the Volkswagen Scirocco.
Overview
[change | change source]The vehicle is part of the modular "New-Small-Family" platform. The development was originally intended to be developed with a rear engine; however, due to the cost implications of developing new engines and transmissions from scratch, this was later discarded.
