Question from Eddie O'Hara (09:56, 25 October 2025)
[edit]Hello, there is an entry on Wikipeadia on my father Eddie O'Hara (Footballer) and I would like to put a short entry bio on myself, such as: Eddie O'Hara BEM is a British social worker based in Birmingham, England. He is the founding chair of the charity 'All Birmingham's Children (ABC) which advocates for children living in poverty and chiuld friendly policy. O'Hara was awarded the British Empire Medla (BEM) in the 2022 New Years Honours for services to children and families. Thank you Eddie --Eddie O'Hara (talk) 09:56, 25 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Eddie O'Hara: Welcome to Wikipedia! firstly, you have a conflict of interest, so please keep that in mind. You could use {{Edit COI}} to do so. Secondly, if you make changes, they must be reliably sourced, which I don't see above. If you have further questions please let me know. —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 10:06, 25 October 2025 (UTC)

Hello! I have recently created an account. When I went on your home page, I was intrigued to know how you created the tables and organised your page. I wanted to try that on my home page, could you guide me? --VNK28 (talk) 21:57, 28 October 2025 (UTC)
- @VNK28: Welcome to Wikipedia! Hi, you can create a user page at User:VNK28. For how I organised the tables, I just used the visual editor. Inside the cells I placed userbox templates, like Template:User en-N. Information about userboxes is at Wikipedia:Userboxes. If you have further questions please lmk. —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 11:09, 29 October 2025 (UTC)
- ah great, that's helpful- thank you! VNK28 (talk) 22:47, 29 October 2025 (UTC)
hello! I was editing Michaela Paetsch's page. In the, 'Early life' section it states: 'Paetsch was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado to cellist Günther Johannes Paetsch and violinist Priscilla Paetsch, both of whom played in the Colorado Springs Symphony. Her brother, Johann Sebastian Paetsch, is also a cellist. Paetsch’s parents taught all seven of their children to play stringed instruments, and she began taking violin lessons at the age of three.[1][2]' I think the information about her brother and her siblings learning to play instruments is not necessary, and unfocussed, if the article is on Michaela. Do you think those lines should be removed? --VNK28 (talk) 00:03, 31 October 2025 (UTC)
- @VNK28: I agree that they should probably be removed, since a reader could just look at the articles linked for details. I think the section generally could also do with some expansion, e.g. where did she go school, assuming you can find that information in reliable sources. —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 11:03, 31 October 2025 (UTC)
- Okay great, will remove. Will also try to some expanding as you suggested. VNK28 (talk) 23:26, 31 October 2025 (UTC)
Guide to temporary accounts
[edit]Hello, Matrix. This message is being sent to remind you of significant upcoming changes regarding logged-out editing.
Starting 4 November, logged-out editors will no longer have their IP address publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account (TA) associated with their edits. Users with some extended rights like administrators and CheckUsers, as well as users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will still be able to reveal temporary users' IP addresses and all contributions made by temporary accounts from a specific IP address or range.
How do temporary accounts work?
- When a logged-out user completes an edit or a logged action for the first time, a cookie will be set in this user's browser and a temporary account tied with this cookie will be automatically created for them. This account's name will follow the pattern:
~2025-12345-67(a tilde, year of creation, a number split into units of 5). - All subsequent actions by the temporary account user will be attributed to this username. The cookie will expire 90 days after its creation. As long as it exists, all edits made from this device will be attributed to this temporary account. It will be the same account even if the IP address changes, unless the user clears their cookies or uses a different device or web browser.
- A record of the IP address used at the time of each edit will be stored for 90 days after the edit. Users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will be able to see the underlying IP addresses.
- As a measure against vandalism, there are two limitations on the creation of temporary accounts:
- There has to be a minimum of 10 minutes between subsequent temporary account creations from the same IP (or /64 range in case of IPv6).
- There can be a maximum of 6 temporary accounts created from an IP (or /64 range) within a period of 24 hours.
Temporary account IP viewer user right
- Administrators may grant the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right to non-administrators who meet the criteria for granting. Importantly, an editor must make an explicit request for the permission (e.g. at WP:PERM/TAIV)—administrators are not permitted to assign the right without a request.
- Administrators will automatically be able to see temporary account IP information once they have accepted the Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy via Special:Preferences or via the onboarding dialog which comes up after temporary accounts are deployed.
Impact for administrators
- It will be possible to block many abusers by just blocking their temporary accounts. A blocked person won't be able to create new temporary accounts quickly if the admin selects the autoblock option.
- It will still be possible to block an IP address or IP range.
- Temporary accounts will not be retroactively applied to contributions made before the deployment. On Special:Contributions, you will be able to see existing IP user contributions, but not new contributions made by temporary accounts on that IP address. Instead, you should use Special:IPContributions for this (see a video about IPContributions in a gallery below).
Rules about IP information disclosure
- Publicizing an IP address gained through TAIV access is generally not allowed (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 previously edited as 192.0.2.1 or ~2025-12345-67's IP address is 192.0.2.1).
- Publicly linking a TA to another TA is allowed if "reasonably believed to be necessary". (e.g.
~2025-12345-67 and ~2025-12345-68 are likely the same person, so I am counting their reverts together toward 3RR
, but not Hey ~2025-12345-68, you did some good editing as ~2025-12345-67) - See Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer § What can and can't be said for more detailed guidelines.
Useful tools for patrollers
- It is possible to view if a user has opted-in to view temporary account IPs via the User Info card, available in Preferences → Appearance → Advanced options →
Enable the user info card
- This feature also makes it possible for anyone to see the approximate count of temporary accounts active on the same IP address range.
- Special:IPContributions allows viewing all edits and temporary accounts connected to a specific IP address or IP range.
- Similarly, Special:GlobalContributions supports global search for a given temporary account's activity.
- The auto-reveal feature (see video below) allows users with the right permissions to automatically reveal all IP addresses for a limited time window.

hello again! Just working on Michaela Paetsch's page. I have removed information about siblings as we discussed. But, the page has been organised with a yearly account of her musical career, which means we get information about her education and early life from a musical perspective, and any non music related education is dotted across different parts of the timelines ie. there is mention of her attending Cheyenne Mountain Junior High School, but thats just a part of the 1970s overview. This structure is also what gives it the feel of an obituary. Is there a way we can amend this? --VNK28 (talk) 23:45, 31 October 2025 (UTC)
- @VNK28: The career section is definitely too broad (you can't start a career until you're born!). A lot of the 1970s section should be removed as unsourced/poorly sourced, and/or as unnecessary detail. Otherwise it should be moved to early life. Some of the 1980s also duplicates the discography. I think the section structure should be Early life - Career (you can subdivide if you want, but I'm not sure how) - Notable performances - Personal life - Death - Achivements - Discography, but that's just my opinion. I'm not an expert, so you may get more focussed advice at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Music. —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 11:37, 1 November 2025 (UTC)
Question from Kimanialex (19:24, 1 November 2025)
[edit]hello how can i start earning --Kimanialex (talk) 19:24, 1 November 2025 (UTC)
- @Kimanialex: I would say you should edit Wikipedia for the fun of the game like I do, but if you're really set on making $$$ then Wikipedia:Reward board is a good place. You should probably get experience in other areas of the encyclopedia first though. If you have any further questions please let me know. —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 21:28, 1 November 2025 (UTC)
Hi Matrix, I wanna ask a question. How does lua modules in this wiki work, exactly? --Munyonn (talk) 13:59, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
- @Munyonn: in general, you write module code at Module:INSERTNAME, and call the module in a template/page like {{#invoke:INSERTNAME}}. More detailed instructions are at mw:Extension:Scribunto/Lua reference manual. If you have further questions please let me know. —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 15:13, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
hey again! Still working on the Paetsch page. Do you think this section (below) can be removed? Or do you think parts of it can be retained and shifted to the early life section I am working on?
"When Michaela was 12 years old, she won both the Colorado Springs Young Artists Contest and the Pueblo Young Artists Contest.[11] As a result, she performed as a soloist with the Colorado Springs Symphony, the Pueblo Symphony under the direction of Gerhard Track, and the Jefferson Symphony in Denver, Colorado.[5]
Paetsch would practice a minimum of four hours a day, and increased that amount when she was preparing for competitions.[12] At 16, she won first prize in the National String Competition sponsored by the American String Teachers Association, held in Chicago, Illinois.[13]" --VNK28 (talk) 23:06, 3 November 2025 (UTC)
- @VNK28: the first sentence doesn't have a good source (WP:BLOG), so you might want to remove that or find a better source. Other than that, everything is well-sourced, (you can see the OCR on the newspaper.com for free), so I think it is ok to include. Of course, verifiability doesn't guarantee inclusion, but I do see this as a significant enough event in one's early life (it should be moved to that section). —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 18:22, 4 November 2025 (UTC)
- this makes sense! thank you. VNK28 (talk) 01:10, 5 November 2025 (UTC)

Question from Marco Kotze Araujo (16:41, 5 November 2025)
[edit]Hi, Matrix, I was wondering if you could just quickly check my page and see if the article i clicked 'publish' actually published...its titled "List of defectors to North Korea after the Korean War"(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_defectors_to_North_Korea_after_the_Korean_War), because it won't show how many views yet it has gained, so I'm unsure if it actually published or needs to be reviewed by an experienced editor who makes the final call. Thank You. --Marco Kotze Araujo (talk) 16:41, 5 November 2025 (UTC)

Hello! Was looking at Mirabai's page and in the Biography section, I noticed that Mira bai was referred to as Meera in some instances and Mira bai in others. The earlier section does note that she was known as both, but to improve comprehension and keep uniformity, might it be better to stick to one name- either Mirabai or Meera? or is using them interchangeably fine too?
Here is the section I am referring to: Primary records about Meera are not available, and scholars have attempted to establish Meera's biography from secondary literature that mentions her.
Mirabai was born into a Rathore Rajput royal family in Kudki (modern-day Beawar district of Rajasthan), and spent her childhood in Merta. She was the daughter of Ratan Singh Rathore and grand daughter of Rao Dudaji of Merta, thus making her a great-granddaughter of Rao Jodha and a cousin of Jaimal Rathore.[12][13]
Meera had an arranged marriage with Bhoj Raj, the crown prince of Mewar, in 1516 --VNK28 (talk) 21:19, 6 November 2025 (UTC)
- @VNK28: that is probably a side effect of the page being moved, but the names not being updated. Having a consistent name would definitely be useful, so I think changing it would be a good idea. —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 18:09, 7 November 2025 (UTC)

Hello! Im new to wikipedia and apparently you were assigned to me as a mentor? I have a question about editing. A user named MikeAllen reverted my edit and they shouldn't have. I made the edit again but I know they'll revert it again. My question is why they did this and how can I stop them from reverting my edits? It's on the page of the 90s version of the movie a little princess and my edit is the addition of an actor in the movie and their character name. When this wikipedia user made that edit they cited nana of style and RW 16.1. Idk what those mean but my edit was correct and clear. If their reason to undo it is because the character isn't relevant, well, neither are a couple others that are mentioned, and if its because the actor doesn't have a wikipedia page, well nor do a few others from the movie. So, I really dont understand why they undid it but I know he's stalking that page because I saw him undo several other edits in that same page made by others. It;s like they're acting like it's their page. Can you help me with this? Thanks. --Linds2008 (talk) 09:03, 12 November 2025 (UTC)
- manual of style, not nana of style
- Linds2008 (talk) 09:07, 12 November 2025 (UTC)
- @Linds2008: (full disclosure, your original mentor is Aaron Liu, but he's away so I'm the replacement) per the bold revert discuss cycle you should discuss the edit at Talk:A Little Princess (1995 film). Whilst I personally wouldn't have reverted the edit on the talk page "What's your problem?" doesn't come off as civil. —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 17:42, 12 November 2025 (UTC)

Hello! Was on Paetsch's page again and was looking at the sources. The first referenced source is not in English but I guess that is not an issue regarding reliability, but rather readability. I am unsure if a non-English source would be useful or what the policies are for this.

I think you can revert it and leave a message ad User talk:Nomadgeek to notify them. —Matrix ping mewhen u reply (t? - c) 18:35, 20 November 2025 (UTC)

Hello! Thank you for your guidance on the recent Kingdom of Kongo page reverts. I was looking at Samad Mir's page, and I noticed that there were two years in the date of birth (1893 and 1959). I am not sure why this is the case, and whether or not this is intentional. Is this something that I can put on the talk page? Or are there any other methods for me to inquire? --VNK28 (talk) 14:11, 22 November 2025 (UTC)
