Introduction to contentious topics
[edit]You have recently edited a page related to the Balkans or Eastern Europe, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia's norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practices;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.
You have recently made edits related to articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles. This is a standard message to inform you that articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles is a designated contentious topic. This message does not imply that there are any issues with your editing. For more information about the contentious topics system, please see Wikipedia:Contentious topics. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 01:11, 30 October 2025 (UTC)

Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! Danners430 tweaks made 15:54, 3 November 2025 (UTC)
Bosnia
[edit]Hello,
I noticed that edits were made to the English Wikipedia page for Bosnia and Herzegovina. I would like to suggest a modification regarding the language designation. Specifically, the current use of "Serbo-Croatian" should be replaced with "Bosnian."
The term "Serbo-Croatian" is now widely considered an outdated, artificial construct, historically imposed in a context that marginalized the Bosniak identity. This imposed linguistic categorization contributed to the broader pattern of discrimination that culminated in the genocide of 1992-1995. Today, the international community officially recognizes four distinct languages in the region: Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian, and Montenegrin.
Updating the page to reflect "Bosnian" instead of "Serbo-Croatian" would be historically accurate and culturally respectful, acknowledging the distinct linguistic and national identity of Bosniaks.
Thank you for considering this important correction. Usercor272 (talk) 01:28, 12 November 2025 (UTC)
AI upscaled images
[edit]Hi, just to let you know that per MOS:IMAGES, the English Wikipedia doesn't use AI upscaled images in biographies. I've replaced your image at Denis Bećirović with the original photo that it was derived from. Belbury (talk) 15:48, 14 November 2025 (UTC)
