[edit]I have blocked you for 48 hours because you have been making numeric changes without explanation or sourcing. PhilKnight (talk) 12:11, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
{{unblock|I was merely changing half-lives of isotopes to the values, predominantly from Nubase2020, already in Wikipedia on the isotopes pages. The numbers I changed were not individually sourced either and I have done hundreds of such edits before (many with this IP; I have a dynamic IP); I have also seen others make such edits. This is simply making Wikipedia more accurate and consistent without harming the state of its sourcing. I assume this was a misunderstanding and the blocking administrator was not familiar with this, but jumped to a conclusion.}}
- Source for existing values: "The half-life of 241Am is 432 years and that of 243Am is 7,370years." https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/compound/Americium diff PhilKnight (talk) 13:08, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
- Are they getting the incorrect values from Wikipedia? PhilKnight (talk) 13:11, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
- For isotopes, it is standard to use the values from Nubase2020 unless there are more recent primary sources. These values are generally reflected in the lists already on the individual element isotope pages (which are the numbers I insert, in a few cases with rounding), where Nubase is cited once for the entire page. It is not usual to give an individual source for each half-life, on any page.
- It is possible that sources such as your provided link got them from Wikipedia. Those are not incorrect values but ones that were accepted at some time before Nubase2020. 73.228.195.198 (talk) 13:21, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for explaining. I have unblocked. PhilKnight (talk) 13:26, 13 July 2025 (UTC)

[edit]Rather than continuing to feud via edit summaries or random talk pages, perhaps we can find a mutually unsatisfactory way to work on the same articles.
I respect that you seem to have expertise in isotope topics. If I encountered a question about isotope topics I would ask for your help.
I don't appreciate your continued and misguided claims that my objections to your edits are superfluous "process". Working with other editors on Wikipedia is a significant challenge and consequently editors have developed a number of practical conventions for collaboration. Some of these conventions are written down in the form of consensus policies and quoting them is a way of notifying newer editors of these practices. This includes the agreed mechanisms for citations. Some of these are more a matter of common practice, things we do out of courtesy to other editors. This includes editing in a series of focused edits with clear edit summaries.
I reiterate my offer to help find sources and to discuss the best ways to present material for readers. Johnjbarton (talk) 21:42, 9 August 2025 (UTC)
