Indefinite extended-confirmed protection: Contentious topic restriction and IP vandalism. It won't cause much collateral damage, as users can continue to contribute through the edit request, which helps to prevent vandalism and biased edits. This elections are based on political parties and similar to 2024 Indian general election. Recent edits suggest some users (particularly an IP without username) deliberately trying to alter the parties in the column, instead of using the calculated projection.1 2 This kind of swapping will happen again and again, to favour their political views instead of facts. We cannot supervise this page everytime, so the protection is necessary. Anbarasan1523 (talk) 07:06, 16 November 2025 (UTC)

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request removal of protection from a page, or reducing the current protection level

Before posting a request for unprotection, please discuss it with the protecting administrator first. You can create a request below only if you receive no response from them.

To find out which administrator protected the page, go to the page's edit history and click on the "View logs for this page" link (located underneath the page's title). The protecting administrator is listed in the protection log entry, next to the words "protected", "changed protection level", or "configured pending changes". If there are a large number of log entries on the page, use the drop-down menu near the top of the page and select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" to filter the logs accordingly.

DO NOT request a reduction in protection if...

  • ...you are being prevented from editing the page. A desire to change content is not a valid reason for unprotection. Instead:
    • If you can edit the article's talk page, use the WP:Edit Request Wizard to propose a change on the article's talk page. Include an explanation of the exact content that you want to change, and what the content will be afterward.
    • If the article's talk page is protected, you may propose a change at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection/Edit.
  • ...your reasoning for reducing protection is that the article has not been vandalized. That simply means the protection is working as intended.
  • ...your reasoning for reducing protection is basically "a long time has passed" without supporting details.
  • ...you haven't contacted the protecting administrator.

You may request a protection reduction below if...

  • ...you want to change the protection level of a template or module from full protection to template protection. You may add the request to this page without having to discuss it with the protecting administrator first.
  • ...you need to remove creation protection from a location where no page exists (redlinked pages) after a draft version of the intended article is prepared beforehand and ready to be published.
  • ...you are proposing a trial reduction in protection for a page that has been protected for several years, provided the proposal is supported by evidence such as talk page activity, page views, page traffic, number of watchers, frequency of edit requests, and prior history of vandalism.
  • ...the protecting administrator is inactive or has not responded to you in several days.

If you cannot locate your request, make sure to check the request archives to see if it's been moved there. Only requests that have been recently answered will still be listed here.

Reason: The merge backlog was very large when these were protected 12 years ago. Now it's much smaller and given the changes happening to the categories and to the merge proposal process itself and its templates, the protection should be at the very least lowered to 30/500. The one transcluded the most has less than 750 transclusions, and the other two have half that. From WP:TPROT: (emphasis supplied)

This protection level should be used almost exclusively on high-risk templates and modules. [...] It should be used on templates whose risk factor would have otherwise warranted full protection. [...] the existence of the right should not result in more templates becoming uneditable for the general editing community. [...] In borderline cases, extended confirmed protection or lower can be applied to high risk templates [...]

And per the high risk templates guideline cited above, there is consensus to permanently semiprotect templates with at least around 200–250 transclusions and to permanently extended-confirmed protect templates with roughly 2500–5000 transclusions, which is less than 7 times the number of transclusions of these templates and which keeps decreasing as the backlog continues to get smaller. FaviFake (talk) 18:06, 14 November 2025 (UTC)

TL;DR: Back when these were protected, they were transcluded into a LOT more pages, so now the protection is obsolete and should be lowered to 30/500 per the high risk templates guideline. FaviFake (talk) 17:50, 15 November 2025 (UTC)

Reason: There is presently a draft article located at Draft:Anand Mishra. The subject has been elected as a member of a subnational legislature in India and therefore meets WP:POLITICIAN.  Lefcentreright  Discuss  15:59, 15 November 2025 (UTC)

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit be made to a protected page
Please add an edit request to the talk page of the protected page before adding an edit request here

Requests for specific edits should be made on the talk page of the protected article. You can create an edit request below only if the talk page is also protected, preventing you from adding a request there.

Otherwise, this is the correct place to use in order to add an edit request if you are unable to add one to the article's talk page. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to properly add a request.

Requests for autopatrolled

Autopatrolled

Hello! I formally request the autopatrolled user right. I'm a regular user of Wikipedia, both in English and Spanish, and I consider that, after so many years and hundreds of articles created on both wikis, i am in the position to say that I know the rules and styles. I've never cared much about user rights, but now that I've started a personal project (ambassadors of Spain and all its lists) to expand diplomatic information about my country, Spain, I'd like to avoid the workload that comes with reviewing articles that comply with our rules. Thank you. TheRichic (Messages here) 11:12, 14 October 2025 (UTC)

Hello! I formally request the Autopatrolled user right. I'm a regular user of Wikipedia, both in Turkish and English. I have contributed to the Turkish Wikipedia, particularly on the Tao-Klarjeti region. I have also started to transfer these contributions to the English Wikipedia. I've periodically patrolled Michelangelo1992's articles, and consistently found them to be in good shape. Focused on books as a topic area and very clear familiarity with WP:NBOOK. He's created 135 articles. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 22:56, 21 October 2025 (UTC)

@Michelangelo1992: I'm a little concerned about overly lengthy quotations. Would you commit to summarizing quotations a bit more? Also, see MOS:SAID. voorts (talk/contributions) 03:24, 31 October 2025 (UTC)
Thank you for the feedback! I’ve always trended toward direct quotes to avoid concerns for original research, but I can make an effort to paraphrase more in the future while still citing the original source. I’ll also try to be more mindful of WP:SAID. I thought I was doing fairly well with this, but I am always open to feedback particularly if you have specific suggestions relating to recent articles. Thank you! Michelangelo1992 (talk) 14:37, 3 November 2025 (UTC)

Have been creating several new articles recently, and I understand the policies and guidelines behind articles. BenTanXiaoMing (talk) 20:45, 5 November 2025 (UTC)

(Non-administrator comment) As a new pages patroller I largely endorse this, their articles are well-categorized and well-referenced - only concern could be their shortest article Sembawang Hills Food Centre where many of the sources are very short and could be considered "not substantial coverage" (though SunDawn marked it as reviewed without any notes). -- Reconrabbit 16:57, 14 November 2025 (UTC)

I've created about 80 articles, mostly about books, and have been encouraged to apply for autopatrolled by a few NPRs who have reviewed them. None of the pages I have created have been tagged for content issues or nominated for deletion (apart from one speedy deletion that was reversed by the deleting admin). I am also an NPR, a regular AfD participant, and a trainee copyright clerk, so I think I have a decent understanding of notability and content guidelines. Thanks for considering this request, and happy to answer any questions or concerns about the articles I've created! MCE89 (talk) 10:20, 13 November 2025 (UTC)

TTW has created 166 articles since 2011. It was a pleasure to review Prehistoric Future at NPP. I recommended that they apply for AP, and they said they would look into the process. I didn't feel comfortable nominating on their behalf then, however with about 2-3 months more experience I think I am able to justify doing so now.

Their record is free of any controversy, aside from a minor close-paraphrasing copyvio PROD in 2013. I do not believe this should disqualify them, especially as this was 12 years ago. Recent articles, such as Burnin' Hot, are well researched and are entirely free of problems, meaning a new page reviewer doesn't need to do anything other than mark the article as reviewed. I am very happy to advocate for AP on behalf of TTW and look forward to seeing more excellent content creation from them on the project in the future! 11WB (talk) 10:56, 13 November 2025 (UTC)

I am requesting the Autopatrolled right.

I routinely work with new drafts in AfC, and I am familiar with identifying drafts that do not meet notability or sourcing requirements. On several occasions I have tagged or nominated drafts for deletion when they were promotional or non-policy compliant, which shows that I understand Wikipedia’s content standards.

The new articles I create follow reliable sourcing, neutral tone, and notability guidelines; therefore they do not require routine patrol. Receiving Autopatrolled would reduce the workload on New Page Patrol and allow reviewers to focus on higher-risk pages. I fully understand the responsibilities associated with this right.

(Non-administrator comment) @Vodnir, I can see you have applied for the correct permission. However, NPR and AP are not the same thing, and you currently do not meet the requirements for AP. You may have mistakenly added AP without meaning to. Just noting this for when an administrator eventually sees this request. Thanks! 11WB (talk) 13:58, 14 November 2025 (UTC)
Not done. There's an expectation of 25+ articles created. Even with your drafts, we're still far out from that number. Thanks for your work on new articles, and don't worry about the light load you give NPP'ers. —Femke 🐦 (talk) 17:35, 14 November 2025 (UTC)

I am interested in being granted the new page reviewer right. I have an extensive history of editing on Wikipedia, having created over two dozen well-sourced articles on a variety of topics, as well as expanding and improving stubs and starts to C class at least. I also regularly review citations to verify them when it seems appropriate, including recently acquiring an EPUB edition of a book for one article. I have come upon a few articles recently that havent been reviewed yet, and it would be useful to help get those squared away. I frequently work with other editors to develop a consensus where everyone is satisfied, particularly but not only in contentious areas. And I enjoy helping to guide newer users on how to construct a good quality article. I am also deeply anti-LLM so I will be on the lookout for such junk. With this right, I would continue to verify and improve citations, etc. Sadly, there is a seemingly limitless supply of poorly cited legacy and newer articles. ← Metallurgist (talk) 22:40, 5 November 2025 (UTC)

Given the articles I have created/contributed to on Wikipedia, I would like to have access to review new articles, and believe I could contribute to expanding the new articles, finding citations, fixing tone, etc. KyleSirTalksAlot (talk) 04:44, 7 November 2025 (UTC)

@Rosguill, courtesy ping. User talk:Aesurias#Repeat draftification and the sequence of events at Draft:Zahid as Shidqi 1 have tipped me into believing that Aesurias shouldn't hold NPR rights. Draft:Tergouw is an example where they draftified the article and then almost immediately declined it at AFC, which also should not be happening. Right to Life Action Coalition of Ohio was a completely improper draftification.
I'm also concerned about their responses to others; this discussion is a link bomb towards a new user after their article was draftified, which is not an appropriate response, this enquiry by GreenLipstickLesbian was archived without answering, and so have two other questions about the pages they've reviewed or drafts declined that should have been answered. This edit summary was unnecessarily bitey as well. Sennecaster (Chat) 17:50, 14 November 2025 (UTC)
Sennecaster, these seem like valid concerns. Is there a particular reason you left a comment rather than just declining the request? I don't have any sense of ownership towards reviewing applicants who received trial runs from me, and I think it could be argued that it's actually best practice to have a second admin review them (although I wouldn't suggest that this be a mandatory rule given that we're somewhat shortstaffed in reviewing these overall). signed, Rosguill talk 19:03, 14 November 2025 (UTC)
@Rosguill, I wanted to express concerns first before I outright declined, as well as not being super experienced in the area. I'll leave it up to someone else to decide if an early revoke is appropriate.
Not done. @Aesurias, there are serious concerns about how you are reviewing pages that make me believe that you need more experience elsewhere on Wikipedia before doing New Page Patrol. Sennecaster (Chat) 19:22, 14 November 2025 (UTC)
I should point out that the 'link bomb' you pointed out was not even my conversation, it was another user.
+ Are you suggesting I should have accepted an article like Draft:Tergouw with zero sources and no improvements made since draftification? There were multiple hours in between the article being draftified and me reviewing it that they could have edited it, but they chose to do zero work. No sane human would accept it.
The "Zahid as Shidqi" happened because the user was sockpuppeting and tried to create a separate mainspace article on another account before verbally abusing me on my talk page, which I was kind enough to ignore.
I noted the message from GreenLipstickLesbian and reversed my un-review but forgot to respond.
The "bitey" edit summary was in response to a user who had repeatedly tried to remove a redirect link from an unsourced article. I don't think I came across as bitey, simply frustrated.
Regardless, thank you for your honesty! aesurias (talk) 22:32, 14 November 2025 (UTC)

I am requesting the New Page Reviewer right.

I have experience reviewing drafts through AfC and tagging pages for speedy deletion, including promotional and non-notable content. I am familiar with core content policies such as WP:N, WP:COI, and WP:NPOV, and I routinely assess articles for compliance with these standards.

This permission would allow me to help reduce the backlog in new page patrol and support quality control across newly created articles.

As a current rollbacker and pending changes reviewer, I am requesting the new page reviewer permission. I have a solid understanding of Wikipedia's quality control processes, have participated in WP:AFD discussions, and have reviewed 31 good article nominations (GANs) and one featured article candidate (FAC) to date. I participated in more AFD discussions after an administrator recommended I do this in a failed request. In addition, I assessed some new articles' ratings on their talk pages (for examples, see the histories of Talk:Churchill Gowns, Talk:Pogledi (disambiguation), Talk:Join (graph theory), and Talk:List of NoSQL software and tools). Furthermore, as of this post, I have five successful GANs (see this page), and two of them were articles I wrote (Noriko Takaya and Ochaco Uraraka). I have engaged civilly with other editors, and to date, I have never been blocked. I have contributed to Wikipedia on a volunteer basis and expect to continue doing so for the foreseeable future. Z. Requests for page mover

Page mover

Hi there! I’m requesting page mover rights because, while patrolling new pages, I sometimes come across pages that need to be draftified and when I do so, unnecessary redirects are left behind. I’ve also encountered cases where a new page has a typo in its title and when I move it to the correct name, I have to leave a redirect behind. I have occasionally contributed to requested moves, though not very frequently. Thanks, ScrabbleTiles (talk) 08:10, 12 November 2025 (UTC)

Hello, I am an AFC reviewer, and recently going through a lot of pages that move from userspace to draftspace, using the tool on Template:AfC submission. This makes me the creator of future sandboxes, which I have then noticed developing into pages I am uninvolved with. So I would like to request for redirect suppression. Also, as a gnome, I would be more than willing to help out at WP:RM, which at the moment has over a dozen requests in the uncontroversial section, as well as a backlog of elapsed listings going back over a month. You can see some of my Gnome work in redirect requests (for which I am psuedo-autopatrolled, which is also a good reason for me to suppress redirects), AFC listings, NPR (mostly redirects, but it would be nice to suppress redirects on draftifications, although I dont do that much anymore), and some recent changes patrolling. There have also been a few times I wanted to create redirects as an AFC/R patroller, but was blocked by the blacklist. I've read the policies on page moving, and would continue to refer back to them as I learn the rest of what goes on at RM, until I understand them all. Happy Editing -- IAmChaos 05:07, 13 November 2025 (UTC)

One of the reasons you mentioned requesting page mover for was suppressing redirects for moves from userspace to draftspace. Theoretically, if you had the rights to do that, which redirect suppression criteria would you use in your edit summary? Tenshi! (Talk page) 17:27, 13 November 2025 (UTC)
I would say G6. Deleting pages unambiguously created [...] in the incorrect namespace, or redirects created by moving away from a title that was obviously unintended. The default edit summary for moves given to AFC reviewers in the template is that submissions should be created in draftspace, so it would seem to me that the correct namespace is Draft, and fixing the namespace is uncontroversial cleanup. I would also commit to only suppress on generic sandbox pages, not on subpages with specific titles, that way individual users could be the creators of their pages, and not have notices sent to me in the future, which I have seen happen to others. Happy Editing -- IAmChaos 18:11, 13 November 2025 (UTC)

Note that Petrb is the author of WP:HUGGLE and has a good use case for needing to edit protected pages, in particular Wikipedia:Huggle/Config.yaml, which I recently dropped from full protection to template editor protection with his use case in mind. –Novem Linguae (talk) 10:11, 14 November 2025 (UTC)
Done per NL. Primefac (talk) 23:56, 14 November 2025 (UTC)

I have been stepping up my template editing in recent months, and believe that I meet the requirements. I likely haven't made 5 significant edits to template-protected modules, but I think it's more than 0. I'll leave that up to the reviewer, though. I have contributed a number of simple templates that have become relatively standard-use in a short period of time, including {{Game-won}} and related templates, as well as {{Hockey season stats entry}} and related templates. Requests for temporary account IP viewer

Temporary account IP viewer

I am a dedicated counter-vandal/abuse/spam editor as well as a gnome/copyeditor. Having this permission would make all of these tasks easier, especially for complex counter-subtle-vandalism edits. I also edit in a CTOP (A-I) that sees its fair share of what was once IP user abuse, especially on talk pages, so having this permission would make countering vandalism or abuse there easier as well (I've already encountered some suspicious behaviour from temp accounts where this permission would have been helpful.) I have read the policy document and agree to the terms and conditions etc. Let me know if you have any questions, I'm travelling so responses may be delayed. Thanks in advance! Smallangryplanet (talk) 23:06, 11 November 2025 (UTC)

This editor has been involved with some of the most controversial topics on Wikipedia, consistantly taking one side of the conflict. They have received informal warning for behavioral issues at AE. Granting advanced permissions for somebody so involved in WP:CT would be out of line. Nehushtani (talk) 07:30, 12 November 2025 (UTC)
@Nehushtani I see that you posted this here as well as on my rollback rights request. (Which was granted.) If you have a specific issue with me or my edits, rather than vague aspersions, please take it to my talk page or AE. Smallangryplanet (talk) 15:49, 14 November 2025 (UTC)
(Non-administrator comment) The informal warning was for using subpar sources, which has no relation to TAIV. Like SAP said above, if you have any evidence of POV pushing, take it to AE. If you have no evidence, don't cast aspersions. Thanks, QuicoleJR (talk) 17:48, 14 November 2025 (UTC)
Done I don't see an issue with SMP having the rights to do the counter-vandalism work as they have been doing before the implementation of TA. – robertsky (talk) 18:36, 14 November 2025 (UTC)

Hi, I'm a cross-wiki patroller who active in revert bad/LTA edits. I will need this right to check whether an IP of a vandal is an open proxy or whether an IP abusing multiple of temporary accounts to evade a vandalism investigating. I have read and understand WP:TAIVDISCLOSE. Thanks, Nvdtn19 (talk) 07:45, 12 November 2025 (UTC)

@Nvdtn19: when you're reverting vandalism, could you please start warning the temporary accounts? Help deter further vandalism and makes blocking easier if they still continue. —Femke 🐦 (talk) 17:42, 12 November 2025 (UTC)
Thanks, I'll take more responsibility to that in the future. Nvdtn19 (talk) 03:53, 13 November 2025 (UTC)
Thank you for leaving warnings after Femke's feedback. I see no other concerns.  Done HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 16:35, 14 November 2025 (UTC)

Would be extremely helpful for me when dealing with genre warriors and vandals. I have read and agree to the guidelines. FMSky (talk) 13:34, 13 November 2025 (UTC)

What does this have to do with it? FMSky (talk) 18:01, 13 November 2025 (UTC)
This tool, while not quite like checkuser, does require a lot of trust. Users with recent blocks and other concerns about editing in general have often been denied access to this. — rsjaffe 🗣️ 20:27, 13 November 2025 (UTC)
Any admin is welcome to reverse my decision if they differ with what I have done. — rsjaffe 🗣️ 20:28, 13 November 2025 (UTC)
It shows IPs, which this site did for the last 25 years until a week ago FMSky (talk) 20:39, 13 November 2025 (UTC)
@Rsjaffe: since we're all still figuring it out here. For editors who have a use for TAIV and are experienced enough to understand, I've basically only checked if there are any behavioural red flags (warnings for outing, warnings for harassment). I do think it's important that TAIV is given out relatively easily to combat abuse. Not going to reverse the decision here, as I'm not sure which way is best. —Femke 🐦 (talk) 19:14, 14 November 2025 (UTC)
I have opened a discussion on the Administrators' noticeboard. I agree that we're all still figuring it out, and this will give FMSky the fairest review of their request. — rsjaffe 🗣️ 21:12, 14 November 2025 (UTC)

Advised to apply at Wikipedia:Help desk#How do I deal with temporary accounts?.

I usually don't need to see IP addresses and would spend most of my time with this turned off, but I often work on alternative medicine and pseudoscience articles. Every so often I end up facing an army of sockpuppets and/or IP accounts because I am interfering with the profits of someone who is selling magic cancer pills or seeking investors in their perpetual motion free energy machine, at which point I do research using IP addresses a lot.

I have read and fully agree with WP:TAIVDISCLOSE. Editor for over 19 years with 59,000 edits. Author of of the widely-read essays WP:1AM and WP:YWAB. Guy Macon (talk) 17:10, 13 November 2025 (UTC)

I have read and understand the Foundation's guidelines for use of this right. I've edited for over twenty years with over sixty thousand edits, and I'm active at ANI, so the right would be essential in investigating IPs/LTAs. I would like to make cross-wiki vandalism reports for en:Georgetown Independent School District like I had been doing before temporary accounts where introduced. This permission only needs to be within the /8 range of User Talk:24.155.147.109. However, it should expire after May 23, 2026 due to me permanently leaving the district at that point. I need to know what Temporary Accounts are attached to the ips to give the network administrators an idea of who is breaking the student code of conduct.(can be seen here)

I know that *this account* does not currently have the time-based requirement, but my primary account for non-school purposes does. If you need to check this, ask arbcom or CU. I think this clearly soars over the requirements need even though it is over 2 accounts. Even if it doesn't or can't check, I believe that this fits under the exception listed at Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer due to me being the only person who is willing to go to the network administrators in person as soon as I notice the vandalism.

PS. If you need proof of me doing this inside of the school district, I can ask an AP to send an email, or a CU can be done. - Flower (she/her; Accounts) 02:18, 15 November 2025 (UTC)

Not done @IPOfAFlower Unfortunately the six-month account age is a hard limit imposed by the software and cannot be overridden. You'd have to apply for this permission from your primary non-school account. --Ahecht (TALK

Ok, as you are not CU or OS, I can't trust the accounts won't be linked. Though, if one of them does come I will be perfectly happy to email them from both accounts. - Flower (she/her; Accounts) 02:36, 15 November 2025 (UTC)
I think you're missing what Ahect said. It is impossible for anyone on the English Wikipedia to grant TAIV to your account if it doesn't meet the minimum requirements for access. Based on your SRGP request on Meta, you probably are seeking an exception, which would probably be better raised at AN or VPR for a community consensus discussion. Hi, rollbacker and pending changes reviewer here. I believe the permission could come in handy on some occasions – rare, but still potentially useful if the time comes. I've been following the implementation of temporary accounts and I'm aware of the Foundation's guidelines associated with this permission. Yacàwotçã (talk) 08:43, 15 November 2025 (UTC)

Done, I'm assigning you the right until Jan next year. If you still feel the need for it, feel free to reapply. Sohom (talk) 08:40, 16 November 2025 (UTC)

I have read and understand the Foundation’s guidelines for this right. I have opened some SPI cases in the past that involved IPs. Regarding this right, I don't anticipate using it often, but when I come across potential LTA cases, it would be useful to have this right for investigation. My watchlist is littered with TA, with 30% edits are vandalisms, often in the same page, but with different account, e.g. recently. I read and acccept the policies regarding this right. Usually when I run into vanndal IP, I cneck all their contribuutions and very often I find olded unnoticed vandalism. NOw I noo longer can doo this. And this is the sole reason I am requesting this right. --Altenmann >talk 08:26, 16 November 2025 (UTC)
