Tcell is one of the leading mobile network operators in Tajikistan, owned and operated by the Tajik company Indigo Tajikistan, part of the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED).[1]

Overview

[edit]

Tcell provides mobile telephony and mobile internet services throughout Tajikistan using GSM, UMTS, HSPA and LTE technologies. As of 2024, the network covered over 90% of the country’s population.[2]

History

[edit]

The company was established in 2003 as Indigo Tajikistan, and in 2010 merged with the Somoncom brand to form the unified Tcell identity.[3] Tcell became fully owned by AKFED after acquiring TeliaSonera’s regional stake in 2017.[4]

Market position

[edit]

According to the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Tcell serves approximately 3.1 million subscribers and holds a market share of around 36 % in Tajikistan’s telecommunications sector.[5]

Technology

[edit]

On 6 August 2020, Tcell switched on its first 5G base stations connected to its live mobile network in central Dushanbe.[6] The company continues to expand its LTE and fiber-optic infrastructure nationwide.[7]

Services

[edit]

Tcell provides prepaid and postpaid mobile plans, broadband internet, and roaming services. Its roaming programs—Real Roaming and Easy Roaming—allow customers to access international networks with flexible tariff options.[8]
