[edit]

Hi please could we add some additional cited resources showing that the symbol is used by Hamas?

How am I not complying, this is a valid news spurce? Since it's not allowed what news sources are allowed? 62.252.211.45 (talk) 15:48, 30 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Finkyspinky I know that I am late, but you did not specify what the "additional cited resources" you want to add to the article 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 13:16, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
There are lots of news sources quoting this, these are two:
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/apr/26/we-are-with-them-support-for-hamas-grows-among-palestinians-in-lebanon
https://www.dw.com/en/germany-debates-banning-red-triangle-symbol-linked-to-hamas/a-69840776
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/gaza-red-triangle-meaning-1.7216788
The inverted red triangle has been used in videos by the Al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas's military wing, to identify Israeli military targets, such as tanks, in Gaza as Israel began its ground invasion there. A caricature mocking Israeli soldiers included the symbol, as do many pro-Palestinian social media posts.
How about these videos from Hamas actually using the triangle, is this sufficent? If not can you give me an idea of the source required so I can provide it?

Berlin graffiti

[edit]

Hello, the image File:Homos for Hamas Graffiti, Berlin, Januar 2025.jpg is captioned with "Pro-Hamas graffiti in Berlin with the red triangle symbol, 2025" on the Red Triangle (Palestinian Symbol) page. I think it should be noted that the symbol in the graffiti is pink and is more visually similar to the Pink Triangle symbol. The caption should be updated to say that it bears resemblance to both the red and pink triangles.

EvPath (talk) 12:02, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

If you need me to say an exact change, I recommend "Pro-Hamas graffiti in Berlin with the pink triangle symbol, bearing resemblance to the red triangle symbol, 2025".
As for sourcing this, I do not know what to source. The image is a self upload and it clearly shows the triangle as pink. The graffiti is in reference to both hamas and homosexuality, so it really could be either symbol.
EvPath (talk) 12:08, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@EvPath I think the best would be to remove it altogether, or just let it but say it's the pink triangle, because it's clearly a pink and not red triangle you are right. Aristoxène (talk) 12:17, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I modified trying to keep the fact that it's a pink triangle but maybe with a double meaning (while not assuming it, just trying to stress this possibility). I feel it's better like that and adresses your points, etc. Aristoxène (talk) 12:20, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I removed it, I think if it requires that much explanation it's not a helpful example for the average reader. Prezbo (talk) 12:26, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Description of suggested change: in the picture where it is said that there is a red triangle... it is very clearly on inspection and zooming into the picture... a pink triangle. very pink. definitely not red. either someone is colorblind, careless, or perhaps has some agenda or other.

whether the person who made the pink triangle (which was an anti-Rainbow person symbol during the Third Reich) intended it to be red, but didn't have money for red paint... well, one can only guess on such things. There are the letters HU next to the triangle... perhaps for Humbolt University... perhaps for some other reason? One doesn't know.

But if there is a picture to show that HAMAS is putting red triangles all over Berlin (this is where the school is located), then they should.. y'know... put pictures of red triangles that are... red. Not pink. (I tend to think that this triangle was intended to be Pink, and to denote the artists feeling that Rainbow people were starting to feel unsafe in Berlin.) Diff:

Done We've already removed that image after the discussion above, but ChickSR reinstated it for some reason. It's no longer in the article now 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 18:30, 26 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Description of suggested change: I added two links and proofread the surrounding text.

 • I added links to the more specific page red triangle (badge) to the text and "see also". The pink triangle is definitely still relevant, it is more familiar to North American readers than the red triangle, and from the discussions above it looks like a lot of people get confused by it.
 • I added Victims of Nazi Germany #Political groups to the text. I haven't removed any current links, but I moved one. In the current version "anti-Nazism" is linked to "political views opposed to Nazism". In the revised version the link is connected to "opposed to Nazism".
 • I simplified "Despite older historical attestations, some theorized…" to "Some media speculated that…"
Historical origins == The red triangle appears in the 1917 flag of the Arab Revolt, with the color red symbolizing Arab independence and unity. The red triangle also appears in the derivative Palestinian flag, which was used during the 1936–1939 Arab revolt in Palestine against British rule and Jewish emigration. In a 1938 photograph, Palestinian rebels are seeing waving a black, white and green flag with a red triangle, with a cross and a crescent, symbolizing interreligious unity, inside the triangle. Despite older historical attestations, some theorized the symbol originates from Nazi concentration camp badges. However, the Nazis used the inverted red triangle to identify prisoners with political views opposed to Nazism, not necessarily Jewish prisoners. == Use since 2023
Expand 1st paragraph of since 2023

[edit]

"Hamas' military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, began using a red triangle to mark Israeli targets in propaganda videos since November 2023, at the onset of the Gaza war, it has seen widespread use by other Palestinian factions since then."

I think it would give more context about its usage in the Gaza war Klortene (talk) 17:17, 5 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
