Sports Teams?

[edit]

According to the information about monograms, the New York Yankees' team symbol, as well as those of other sports' teams, would be considered monograms. I believe that adding this to the article would be an interesting and informative addition :) Twitterpated. (talk) 00:11, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Monogram vs Cypher

[edit]

In a 1906 book, MONOGRAMS and CIPHERS by A. A. TURJBAYNE

"A Monogram is a combination of two or more letters, in which one letter forms part of another and cannot be separated from the whole. A Cipher is merely an interlacing or placing together of two or more letters, being in no way dependent for their parts on other of the letters." See here

This article does not draw a clear distinction between a monogram and a cypher, and therefore fails to explain adequately why a royal cypher is classified as a cypher. Since most people scarcely differentiate between the two, it would be preferable to retitle the article as "Monogram and cypher". — HenryLi (Talk) 06:53, 20 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
