Huon-class replacement

[edit]

Does anyone know why the RAN is retiring their minehunters without a replacement on the horizon? Currently down to two active vessels, from six. With the Arafura-class now reduced to six, it doesn't look like the additional two MCM versions will be getting built either. What is the RAN's long-term plan for minehunting? They were originally going to be replaced with a variant of the Arafura-class offshore patrol vessel, but there don't seem to be plans to introduce new dedicated minehunters now. Media reports have noted that the RAN is investing in various uncrewed mine hunting systems that can operate from other vessels. Nick-D (talk) 01:30, 23 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Nick-D. Yes, I was aware of that, I guess my question was more along the lines of does the RAN have any plans for a regular, crewed, dedicated minehunter fleet at all (as more of a direct Huon-class replacement)? It doesn't appear to be so at this point. MondoAus (talk) 15:35, 25 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
