Digital Content Merge
[edit]The merge has been opposed as only the nominator supports the merge. Also this merge is stale. (non-admin closure) -KAP03(Talk • Contributions • Email) 19:47, 7 December 2017 (UTC)

I'm suggesting that the digital content article be merged into two separate articles. There is no need to narrow the scope of content (media) to digital content if there isn't anything unique about a digital content format compared to an analog content format. And if there is anything unique about a digital content format, it should be part of the digital data article. Oicumayberight (talk) 17:48, 3 February 2017 (UTC)
- We might want to also consider Digital media in this discussion. ~Kvng (talk) 14:03, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
- That article should be exclusively about the various media which can store or deliver digital data. Where it gets into what's unique about a digital content format should also be part of the digital data article. Oicumayberight (talk) 08:25, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
- The "need to narrow the scope of content (media) to digital content" is not related to uniqueness between digital or analog delivery methods of contents. The content (media) article exists as a diction and disambiguation reference. "Content" is contemporaneously used to describe an objective set of things, and the term has spread as jargon. "Digital content" exists as reference for a category, not a term, and if it were to be merged then digital media would be the appropriate article. "Digital content" and "digital media" are synonymous in context of what the digital content article is written to describe. The digital content article describes content storage and distribution by digital means. However, the content (media) article is specifically describing the word "content" in its various contexts as a synonymous pronoun for "media", "art", and the like. Proposed merge of Data (computer science) into Digital data

As per lead: "In modern (post-1960) computer systems, all data is digital." fgnievinski (talk) 20:53, 17 March 2025 (UTC) fgnievinski (talk) 20:53, 17 March 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose: Computer science evolved with analog data (e.g., Analog computer), and this article should be built out to reflect that.
- Definitely agree that some content should be shuffled between the swath of data-related articles, and the scope of each article should be better defined. As I see it, this article is distinct in that it focuses more on modes, methodologies, and technologies for interacting with data in the context of computer science/systems. Digital data seems closer to the Data article, with a broader focus on information science and applications. Tule-hog (talk) 19:16, 26 March 2025 (UTC)

- Can we get a few words of elaboration why supporters think this is a good idea? ~Kvng (talk) 14:55, 26 November 2025 (UTC)
- Of course. As the nom succinctly said, all data is digital. These articles are covering basically the same exact topics and readers would be much better served by a merged article. FaviFake (talk) 20:29, 28 November 2025 (UTC)

- Support - I've reviewed the two articles and spot checked links to Data (computer science) and I believe the proposed merge can work and would eliminate unnecessary overlap in coverage. ~Kvng (talk) 15:42, 16 December 2025 (UTC)
