Better name

[edit]

I think this should have a more descriptive name, like DEC System Module. "System Module" could be generic. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 00:28, 20 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I think DEC System Module is a great name (it's the name I used for the Wikimedia Commons category. Note that Philco also sold a product under the name Digital System Building Blocks to add to the potential confusion. Douglas W. Jones (talk) 22:20, 20 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Commons category and possible alternative illustrations

[edit]
System Module in vinyl pouch

I have created a commons category DEC System Module and linked to it. I also uploaded a number of new photos of system modules into that category, including some in their original System Building Block blister packs, and the one shown here (unfortunately, this one is a posed photo, the pouch was empty when I found it). It seems to me that at least one of the photos used to illustrate the page ought to show DEC's use of the name System Module. Douglas W. Jones (talk) 04:07, 19 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It is quite a collector's thing to have the pouch! I think the photo is OK, but you can't tell the details as well with it in the pouch. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 22:59, 19 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
See DEC System Building Block 0131983 component side for a photo of a different 4113 board. That board came in this blister pack DEC System Building Block 0131983 package, along with its quality control paperwork (the 60-year-old glue failed, I put it all back in the pack after photography). I am hoping to distribute these places restoring PDP 5 or 6 systems; the machine I am working on uses 1965-vintag flip-chip modules. Douglas W. Jones (talk) 03:47, 20 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm a computer history buff and I'm interested in seeing these restored. (The one in the article with the US quarter is mine.) Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 04:19, 20 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
