"Connected contributor" disclosure and 2020 rewrite

I created the initial version of this page in 2006 in response to a user request from an interested third party, who felt that the system was deserving of its own Wikipedia article. With the "Connected contributor" information disclosed above, I have since (2020) taken the opportunity for a general rewrite of this article since its last makeover in 2006-2008, incorporating new information, adding an infobox and illustrative graphics, plus a lot more references. I have tried to keep to NPOV and avoid undue self promotion; if anyone has issues with my text they are welcome to change it and/or raise issues on the present "talk" page which I will be happy to discuss further.
