[edit]How come the API took a dump guys? It was working yesterday and suddenly not. I have wasted a few hours on this now, get your service together.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.40.5.197 (talk • contribs) 22:40, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
Example URL points here
[edit]User 15.203.169.106 (talk · contribs) recently [ changed] the example URL in the article to "http://bit.ly/6wgJO". Checking "http://bit.ly/6wgJO+" shows that that URL points to this article. Recursion FTW! CWC 03:23, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

LIbya?
[edit]Why the hell is their domain Libya? Does anyone know? 98.185.234.63 (talk) 20:10, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

- It's really only for using .ly to form "Bitly", there's nothing special about Libya. No one would ever register a website in Tuvalu if not for the fact that their top level domain is .tv, either. Knight of Truth (talk) 09:24, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
No link to website
[edit]It seems pretty silly that we don't have a link to the website on here. Surely we should be able to make an exception for this one page. Does anyone know who would have the power to do this? Mahahahaneapneap (talk) 14:20, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
- Why is a link needed? The link is given clearly in the infobox, and anyone interested can copy that into their web browser. Johnuniq (talk) 00:49, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
- I agree that not setting the link is kind of silly. Wikipedia not allowing links using bit.ly doesn't mean it prohibits a link to the homepage of that project.Knarrff (talk) 17:30, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
- The Spam-whitelist is where you want to go to get this kind of technical problem fixed. Which I have done already, and the link is now included on the page.--Tim Thomason 03:07, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
- the exceptions for plain bitly.com (without params and without path) and some other deeplinks are now handled globally, see [1]. -- seth (talk) 07:32, 27 June 2023 (UTC)
Twitter Moving On
[edit]Bitly is no longer the default link shortenor for twitter. A change should be made or an disputed accuracy tag should be added.
I attempted to make this change but t.co (the new twitter link shortenor) is on the external link blacklist. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Falkirks (talk • contribs) 20:54, 22 May 2013 (UTC)

What info is collected?
[edit]The article says that "Bitly makes money by charging for access to aggregate data created as a result of many people using the shortened URLs." If anyone knows what kinds of information are collected (e.g. IP addresses and/or location data, or just source pages or number of clicks), that would be very helpful information to put in the article. FideliaE (talk) 03:25, 2 August 2018 (UTC)
Adding "+" to the bit.ly/whatever does not directly reveal the true URL unless one is registered bitly user and signed in.
[edit]This should be stated in the article. I suspect the article is cleansed by bitly employees. 2600:8806:1400:1100:C566:A4BB:6808:1E25 (talk) 12:12, 25 September 2022 (UTC)
Bitly Enterprise examples are unlikely to use Bitly
[edit]- The company offers a paid solution called Bitly Enterprise that provides advanced branding features, audience intel, omnichannel campaign tracking, custom QR codes and more. Companies can use their own custom domains to generate shortened links; for example, The New York Times uses
nyti.ms, and Pepsi usespep.si, Google usesgoo.gle.
the article presents those three services' internal URL shorteners as using Bitly Enterprise, even though i'm pretty sure they don't. At least Google has the resources to have their own URL shortening service rather than relying on Bitly
also, a lot of those terms like "omnichannel" are very specific and could potentially be an advertisement from bitly

Request for article updates - current leadership, products, and metrics
[edit]Hello, I am an employee of Bitly and therefore have a conflict of interest regarding this article. In accordance with Wikipedia’s conflict‑of‑interest and paid editing guidelines, I am posting this request here so other editors can evaluate and, if appropriate, make these changes. All suggestions below are intended to improve the article’s accuracy and neutrality.
Requested updates and corrections
1. Update CEO information – The infobox currently lists Toby Gabriner as CEO. Bitly’s leadership page notes that Peter Krivkovich is now Chief Executive Officer. Updating the infobox and lead to reflect the current CEO would improve accuracy.
2. Update company description – The article currently describes Bitly chiefly as a URL‑shortening service. Bitly is now a multi‑product platform that offers short links, QR Codes, analytics and landing pages. Add a sentence noting that Bitly attained SOC 2 certification and states it complies with the GDPR (security.bitly.com). Updating the description accordingly would make it current.
3. Correct metrics and scale – The article still cites 600 million links per month and other statistics from 2012. More recent data on Bitly's homepage shows that Bitly supports 600k+ global paying customers, 256M links and QR Codes created monthly, 800+ app integrations, and 10B clicks and scans monthly.
4. Replace Bitly TV and Enterprise with current products – The section currently mentions a 2009 experiment (Bitly TV) and implies that Bitly Enterprise is a standalone product. Bitly TV is defunct and should be removed. Bitly Enterprise is not a separate product but a paid plan tier that offers additional features. Instead, the Products section could summarize Bitly’s current offerings: (a) short links, (b) QR Codes, (c) landing pages, and (d) analytics.
5. Remove Bitmarks – The entry still refers to “Bitmarks,” an experimental bookmarking feature announced in 2012, which the company no longer offers. Recommend removing this outdated content.
6. Add Egoditor acquisition – Bitly's first acquisition of Germany-based Egoditor GmbH and its flagship QR Code Generator product enabled comprehensive QR code management alongside link shortening capabilities (techcrunch.com).
7. Add new product features and integrations – Since the last major update, Bitly has introduced several features and integrations that are not mentioned, evolving beyond its origins as a Twitter-focused URL shortener. The following are listed on Bitly's Integration Marketplace.
Bitly MCP – Bitly introduced its Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, which integrates the full Bitly platform into AI assistants such as Claude, Cursor and ChatGPT. The MCP allows users to create links and QR Codes and pull analytics through natural‑language requests within those tools.
Integrations:
Social media – Bitly connects with major social media management platforms such as Sprout Social, Buffer, and HootSuite to support multi-channel campaigns.
Creative tools – Bitly integrates with Adobe, Canva, and Twitch, allowing creators to generate branded short links and QR Codes directly within content creation workflows.
Workflow automation platforms – Integrations with ChatGPT, Zapier, Make, n8n, and IFTTT enable users to automate link and QR Code creation and management across business processes.
Enterprise software connections – API integrations with Salesforce, HubSpot, Microsoft Power Platform, and Google Analytics Campaign URL Builder support enterprise-scale management and tracking.
8. Update free account policy changes – In 2025 Bitly introduced a new preview page for links created on the free plan (support.bitly.com). This interstitial page shows a preview of the destination link alongside an advertisement before redirecting. Users can remove ads by upgrading to a paid plan. - I have added the Egoditor acquisition and product scope to the article (if anyone disagrees feel free to revert me). I am not going to add the integrations as I am not sure they are really needed for this article, but other editors might disagree. Greyjoy talk 05:48, 25 September 2025 (UTC)
