Musical styles
[change | change source]Taking Back Sunday is most commonly described as emo, post-hardcore, pop-punk, alternative rock, and post-punk. The band has also veered into the sounds of pop rock, emo pop, and hard rock. Charles Spano of AllMusic described the band as a "New York-based emo band that blend[s] Southern California post-punk, nu metal and old school hardcore." Despite this, Lazzara has rejected the labeling of his band as an emo group. Despite the bands large popularity in “the early-2000s emo boom" and the presumption of the band being an emo band by many fans, the group members have brought up multiple times they liked to be referred to as just simply alternative rock.
