Etymology

[change | change source]

The name of this city comes from the Mapudungun term lon, it means Maqui in Spanish.

It was founded on 1905 by the distilling company Quellón who extracted Alcohol from the forest trees.

This city is the most important port in Chiloé Island because there are industries dedicated to the salmon industry and the extraction of marine products from the sea.
