Oxime

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An oxime is a type of organic compound. Oximes have the oxime functional group, where a carbon atom has a double bond to a nitrogen atom, and the nitrogen is connected to a hydroxy group.[1]

Oximes are sometimes divided into aldoximes and ketoximes depending on what else is connected to the carbon atom. This is similar to the difference between aldehydes and ketones: if the double bonded carbon atom is bonded to a hydrogen, it is called an aldoxime, and if it is bonded to two other carbon atoms, it is called a ketoxime.
