OpenAI is an American artificial intelligence (AI) research laboratory. It is made up of many groups. These include the non-profit OpenAI Inc. and its for-profit subsidiary (company owned by another company) corporation OpenAI Global LLC.
Sam Altman has been chief executive officer of OpenAI since 2019 (even though he was kicked out for a little bit of time in 2023)
