De Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library be a library owned by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, a former Presido of Nigeria.[1] E be historic, tourist plus academic centre wey dem establish as national archive to keep all de documents plus materials wey de president use during ein time as Nigeria president.[2] De library dey Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria.[3]

History

De library resemble de presidential library system wey dey United States. Dis concept of Presidential Library start for 1939 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt wey donate ein official documents make dem use am nationally. For 1955, de country pass de Presidential Libraries Act make dem formalize de project as national archive for all documents plus materials of American Presidents wey serve for office.[4][5]

Na Nyaknno Osso conceive de Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) for 1988 to immortalize am, but e become reality after Obasanjo become president of de Federal Republic of Nigeria. De idea to start de library remain idea for ten years until Chief Olusegun Obasanjo move from prison go State House as Nigeria ein second elected Executive President. E no waste time — he set up de Office of Presidential Libraries (Libraries, Research plus Documentation) wey carry mission to make sure say de OOPL dream turn reality.[6][7][8]

On November 12, 2002, dem register de Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Foundation as non-profit organisation to advise, promote, plus support de establishment, growth, and development of de Library. Dem also set am up to coordinate de Library ein activities plus provide support for all ein programmes. De Foundation ein board of trustees get responsibility to mobilise private sector support plus funding to build, furnish, maintain, plus protect de Library complex buildings plus all de things wey e get inside.

Facilities

De Presidential Library complex cover 32 hectares of land. De archives inside get 15 million documents, two million books plus 4,000 artifacts wey relate to Obasanjo ein two times for power, plus general Nigerian and African history. De complex still get open-air amphitheater, 1,000-seat auditorium, 153-room hotel, different restaurants plus bars, small amusement park, wildlife park, plus one observation point.[9][10]

Structure

De presidential library complex dey strategically located for junction of two major roads wey dey lead enter Abeokuta from different directions — The Presidential Boulevard wey dey go Lagos, plus The MKO Abiola Way wey dey go Ibadan. Dis 32-hectare complex dey near de Federal High Court, de City Stadium, de Federal plus State Government Secretariats, one golf course, and plenty high-class residential areas.

To build de complex no be small work, because de site get plenty environmental plus physical wahala due to de special topography. Almost 47 percent of de place dey covered with hard granite rock outcrops.

De shape plus look of de rocks dey very fine and interesting. One plateau-like rock serve as natural helipad, while some other rocks form small hills wey give clear view of de whole complex and parts of de city around. But e no be only rock full de area — one fast stream dey wey flow enter small swamp. Dem dam am to get water and electricity. Dis dam na one of de highlights wey dey make people enjoy dem visit to de library complex.
