The Novgorod Republic (Russian: Новгородская республика, romanized: Novgorodskaya respublika) was a city-state that existed between the 12th century and the 15th century. It extended from the Gulf of Finland to the Ural Mountains.[1]

The area of Novgorod was populated by various East Slavic tribes that were constantly at war.[2]
