Moe (萌え) is a slang term in Japanese that usually refers to having a very strong affection towards mostly female characters in anime, manga, video games created for the Otaku market.

This term also refers to fictional characters in anime that display cuteness.[1]

The word's origins are not known.

During the 2000s, the term became popular with Otakus and it evolved from being a non-sexual desire to a sexual obsession with cuteness.
