Cars is a 2006 American animated sports film produced by Pixar theatrically released on June 9, 2006 in North America.

The film focuses about Lightning McQueen who also best friends with Mater the tow truck. He is on his way to California where he is scheduled to race for the Piston Cup. He gets lost on his way and finds himself in Radiator Springs, an Arizonian fictional town on Route 66. There, he makes new friends who help him prepare for his Piston Cup race, which he ends up selflessly losing to help a car that crashed. Cars was Pixar's final film released before Disney's acquisition of the studio.

Lightning McQueen, a hotshot race car, on the way to one of his biggest races, who gets stranded on Route 66. He being said he finds his way to a town near by looking for a way out. He repaves shoddily in a rush to leave, he must fix the town's road, but along the way, he discovers the value of friendship and community. Within this, he goes on learning a lot of lessons but making lifelong friends that in the end, he doesn't want to leave. The film explores themes of humility, slowing down, and finding joy in the journey rather than just the destination.

In the additional voices part, Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, John Ratzenberger, Billy Crystal, John Goodman and Dave Foley reprise their roles from previous Pixar movies. In fact, there's a scene during the credits where Mack watches car-versions of earlier Pixar hits, commenting on the fine actor in each scene before realizing it's the same actor playing different characters in each movie.

Mater and the Ghostlight was released on November 7, 2006 on DVD. After the credits closing, the screamin' banshee is missing, but Mater couldn't find him and he went back to bed.

This is a two ripoff films featured by A Car's Life: Sparky's Big Adventure on November 21, 2006 and CarGo: The Autobots on July 4, 2015.

Sequels and spinoffs

The first sequel, Cars 2, was released on June 17, 2011. The second sequel, Cars 3, was released on June 16, 2017.[2] Both sequels were also made by Pixar. A fourth film was planned in June 14, 2024.

A spin-off film, Planes, was released on August 9, 2013. Its sequel Planes: Fire & Rescue was released on July 18, 2014. The Planes films were made by Pixar. A third film was planned in June 29, 2018.

There has also been a spinoff television series on the Disney Channel called Cars Toons: Mater's Tall Tales and Cars on the Road.
