Franz Aigner (* 14 September 1967 in St. Johann im Pongau) is a former Austrian football. He played as defender, and is a current football coach.
Career
[change | change source]Aigner started his career in the youth of SK Bischofshofen. In the summer of 1986 he signed his first professional contract with SK Sturm Graz.In the autumn of the same year he made his debut in the Austrian Bundesliga. However, he did not manage to break through. 1990 he moved to SV Austria Salzburg in the 2nd league. In the 1988/89 season, he celebrated promotion to the first Bundesliga with Salzburg.
In 1990, Franz Aigner was loaned to city rivals FC Salzburg. His performance in the second division earned him a place back in Austria Salzburg's Bundesliga squad. After half a season, he was loaned out again to the second division, this time to Austria Klagenfurt. After their relegation he came back to Salzburg. There he played for the Amateur team. Now he transformed from a attacking player into a midfielder. At the end of the 1992/93 season, he was substituted into the first team three times by Otto Barić. His breakthrough came in the spring of 1994. He became a regular member of Salzburg's championship and European Cup team in the position of left back. In this season the team reached the UEFA-Cup final. [2] With SV Austria Salzburg, he defended the league title and the Supercup in the 1994/95 season and won both again in the 1996/97 season.
In the 2000, Aigner moved to the second division club BSV Bad Bleiberg. After two seasons he ended his professional playing career at the age of 35. He completed his coaching qualifications and earned his A-license.
International
[change | change source]He played 6 matches for the Austrian national football team and scored one goal. His first match was in a 4-3 away win versus Poland on 17 May 1994. His last match was on 2 April 1997 in a 2-0 away loss versus Scotland . [3]

Manager
[change | change source]His first coaching position was in 2002 as assistant coach to Heimo Pfeifenberger at SV Austria Salzburg Amateurs. The following season, Aigner became head coach of the team. After Red Bull's takeover of the club in July 2005, Aigner was confirmed in his position. He was replaced by Thorsten Fink at the beginning of September 2006. From 2007 to 2009 and from 2012 to 2016, Franz Aigner coached the regional league team TSV St. Johann im Pongau. From summer 2016 to 2022, he was the coach of SV Wals-Grünau. In 2023, he coached SV Friedburg. Since then, he has not found a new club.
