  • Comment: It is very difficult to see notability here. Under WP:ANYBIO the subject needs ideally 3 in depth profiles of their life by independent reliable sources, and there are none at the moment. Notability has to come from other people, not the subject's own words or works.
Wikipedia is also WP:NOTDIRECTORY so the inventory of articles is excessive. By all means put a selected sample. ChrysGalley (talk) 21:54, 3 November 2025 (UTC)

Yasunari Kitaura (北浦 康成, Kitaura Yasunari)[1], May 25, 1937 (Tokyo, Japan), April 26, 2023 (Madrid, Spain), was a Japanese art historian, expert in the European Renaissance, member of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando[2] and Aikido master holder of an 8th Dan from Aikikai Hombu Dojo; he was Shihan representative of Aikikai in Spain through the Spanish Cultural Aikido Association (Asociación Cultural de Aikido, ACAE), of which he himself was the founder.

Biography

[edit]

He graduated in French by Waseda University (Tokyo, Japan) and obtained a Ph.D. degree in Art history by Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Madrid, Spain) with the thesis entitled El sistema imaginativo de El Greco. He published several books and articles on the history of European, Japanese, and Chinese Art. His morphological analysis of art works from the European Renaissance led him to uncover numerous links among works by different artists and their relations to ancient Greece. This analytical study allowed him to determine certain rules that govern the composition of a piece of art in the Renaissance and thus elucidate the imaginative system of the artists of that period.[3]

He trained in Aikido under the founder Morihei Ueshiba and his son, Kisshomaru Ueshiba.

In 1967 he traveled to Madrid (Spain) funded by a scholarship of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain, with the aim to further develop his studies in the history of European Art. In 1968 he introduced Aikido in Spain, devoting his life to its dissemination with the special support from both, Kisshomaru Ueshiba and Moriteru Ueshiba (current Doshu), who visited Spain in numerous occasions.[4] As an example of the dissemination of Aikido in Spain, one can mention the honoris causa Doctorate of Kisshomaru Ueshiba by Universidad Politécnica de Valencia in 1992.[5]

Along his more than fifty years in Europe, Yasunari Kitaura trained numerous experts in Aikido, especially in Spain, his country of residence. He also contributed significantly to the dissemination of this martial art throughout the continent, including Russia and some former soviet republics.[6]

His Aikido style was characterized by its sobriety and the elegance of movement. His view of Aikido was based on energetic and forceful movements that establish dynamical and harmonious unifications with the ki (energy flow) that emanates from uke (attacker). His lectures were not limited to technical explanations, but additionally addressed philosophical and aesthetical aspects of both, attack and defense. The theoretical basis of this concept of Aikido was summarized in a lecture entiltled "Kimusubi" (unification/harmonization of energy flows), delivered in a conference for peace (Gernika, Spain, 1994) in which solutions were sought for aggresive conflicts; this lecture was eventually published as a part of the book "La plenitud del vacío" (in Spanish).[4]
