xUnlocked is an education technology company that provides enterprise learning solutions through a suite of on-demand, expert-led video platforms. Its products — Finance Unlocked, Sustainability Unlocked, and Data Unlocked — are designed to help organisations develop skills and capabilities across key professional domains.[1]
The platform was designed to offer expert-led video content that could be accessed flexibly, earning comparisons to a “Netflix for finance.”[2]
History
[edit]xUnlocked was founded in 2017 in London, United Kingdom by Henry White and Robert Ellison.[3] The company works with recognised authorities in their fields, including academics, practitioners, and policymakers, to develop its content.
Its first product, Finance Unlocked, was developed to address a gap in accessible, high-quality financial education for professionals, and gained early adoption within the financial services sector as institutions sought to tackle skills shortages.[4]
In 2021, the company expanded its offering with the launch of Sustainability Unlocked, aimed at providing professional education in Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) topics. The company works with recognised authorities in their fields, including academics, practitioners, and policymakers, to develop its content. [5] This move aligned with increasing corporate and regulatory emphasis on sustainability-related skills across industries.
Data Unlocked, the company’s third core product, was introduced in 2025, reflecting the continued demand for data literacy and analytical capabilities in the workplace.
In 2024, Santander UK launched three new courses on Santander Open Academy, in partnership with xUnlocked and Fearless Adventures, which aim to equip people above the age of 18 with green, digital and professional leadership skills – the skills needed to power the economy of the future.[6]
Over 100,000 learners utilise xUnlocked across a global client base, including Santander, The London Stock Exchange, Airbus, GSK, Oxford Said Business School and Royal Bank of Canada.[7]
Funding
[edit]In 2023, xUnlocked secured a £5 million (USD $6.1 million) investment from BPP Education Group, a UK-based provider of professional and vocational education. The investment formed part of a strategic partnership between the two organisations, expanding BPP’s portfolio into new verticals such as sustainability and finance education through on-demand, video-based learning. The partnership was positioned as a response to growing demand for upskilling and lifelong learning among professionals.[8]
Services
[edit]xUnlocked’s pathways are accredited by the CPD Standards Office. Learners complete structured video modules followed by assessments. Upon successful completion, participants receive certification and earn Continuing Professional Development (CPD) or Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits, depending on the relevant regional framework. These accreditation standards are widely recognised and support ongoing professional learning across various sectors.[9]
