Warshim Chesam (born 18 July 2000) is an Indian professional bodybuilder from Manipur, known for being the only athlete from Northeast India to win a silver medal in the Indian Body Builders Federation (IBBF). He is a three-time Mr. Manipur Overall Champion, Mr. Imphal East Overall Champion (2022), Mr. Khamba Overall Champion (2022), Mr. Asia Bronze Medalist (ABBF 2023), and Mr. India Silver Medalist (IBBF 2024). Chesam has represented India at both national and international bodybuilding competitions.
Early life and education
[edit]Warshim Chesam was born on 18 July 2000 in Mayang Imphal Chirai, Imphal West, Manipur, to Sirajuddin Chesam and Nureda Chesam. He grew up with his brothers Saheer Khan Chesam and Javed Akhtar Chesam, and his sister Roshni Chesam. He currently resides in Hatta Golapati Lane No. 6, Imphal East, Manipur.
From a young age, Chesam was passionate about football, a sport he played actively during his school years. However, over time he discovered a stronger interest in fitness and bodybuilding, which eventually became his career path. He began training to improve his physique and soon developed a deep dedication to bodybuilding, transforming his passion into a professional pursuit.
Career
[edit]Chesam began bodybuilding as a teenager after being inspired by local athletes. Initially, he trained to gain confidence and build a stronger body after facing criticism for being slim. His determination and rapid transformation caught attention, and he soon decided to compete at the state level.
His first competitions were Mr. Khorifaba 2019 and Mr. Manipur 2019, where he reached the top 10 in the latter. Despite early setbacks, Chesam continued to improve and gain recognition.
After a break during the COVID-19 pandemic (2020–2021), when most events were canceled, Chesam made a strong comeback and won the Mr. Manipur Overall Champion (2021) title — marking his first major victory. In 2022, he followed it up by winning the Mr. Imphal East Overall Champion and Mr. Khamba Overall Champion titles, before achieving more state-level honors including multiple Mr. Manipur Overall Champion titles.
In September 2023, Chesam represented India at the 55th Asian Bodybuilding & Physique Sports Championship held in Nepal, where he earned a bronze medal. In 2024, he secured a silver medal at the 1st Mr. India Physique and Sports Championship, organized by the Indian Body Builders Federation (IBBF) — making him the only athlete from Northeast India to achieve such a distinction in the federation.
Personal life
[edit]Chesam’s journey was marked by numerous struggles. During his preparation for Mr. Asia 2023, he met with a serious bike accident two weeks before the event, suffering multiple injuries. Despite the setback, he recovered with the constant care and support of his family — especially his mother, who stayed by his side throughout his healing process.
He often credits his parents and siblings for their unwavering support and dedication, stating that their sacrifices played a vital role in his success. Chesam has expressed his desire for government recognition and support for athletes who bring laurels to the state of Manipur and India.
