Prachi Shirodkar (born 18 June 1998) is an Indian filmmaker, cinematographer and multidisciplinary artist based in Goa. She is best known for directing and narrating the Konkani short documentary Bhaangar: Kalakusar Karigiri (2025), which documents Goa’s traditional goldsmiths and won the Best Documentary Award at the Miseentage Indian Film Awards 2025.[1][2]

Early life and education

Prachi Shirodkar was born in Mumbai and raised in Goa. She studied architecture at the Goa College of Architecture and later pursued media and communication at Don Bosco College, Panjim. Her academic background in design and storytelling shaped her interest in visual arts and filmmaking.[3]

Shirodkar began her creative journey working on short visual projects and experimental video art. Her multidisciplinary work combines elements of cinematography, performance, and sound design.

Filmmaking

In 2025, Shirodkar wrote, directed, shot and narrated the short Konkani documentary Bhaangar: Kalakusar Karigiri. The 15-minute film captures the craftsmanship of traditional Goan goldsmiths (“Bhaangar”) and documents the vanishing artistry passed down through generations. The documentary features artisans from Goa’s hinterland and explores the relationship between craft, culture and identity.[3][4][5]

Bhaangar: Kalakusar Karigiri premiered in early 2025 and was screened at several national and international film festivals. The film received critical recognition and awards including:

  • Winner — Best Documentary, Miseentage Indian Film Awards 2025.[1]

  • Nominee — NanoCon International Film Festival 2025.[4]
