Oleh Albertovych Proskuriakov (born 13 February 1968) is a Ukrainian geologist and former government official who served as the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine from 2012 to 2014 during the presidency of Viktor Yanukovych.
Early life and education
[edit]Proskuriakov was born in Topar, Karaganda region, Kazakhstan (then part of the Soviet Union). In 1992, he graduated from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv with a degree in geological surveying, exploration, and prospecting of mineral deposits.
Career
[edit]Proskuriakov began his professional career as a geologist in the early 1990s. From 1990 to 1991, he worked as a technician-geologist for the Complex Geological Expedition of Ukrgeolstroy in Kyiv.
In the private sector, he held managerial positions in several companies:
- February 2008 – January 2010: Deputy Director at "Businessyurservis" Law Firm, Kyiv.
- February 2010 – December 2010: Deputy Director for Development at "BRSM-Nafta".
- December 2010 – May 2012: Chairman of the Board of the National Joint-Stock Company "Nadra Ukrainy".
- May 2012 – December 2012: Chairman of the State Service of Geology and Mineral Resources of Ukraine.
On 24 December 2012, President Viktor Yanukovych appointed Proskuriakov as Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine. He served until 27 February 2014, when he was dismissed by the Verkhovna Rada. He was succeeded by Andriy Mokhnyk.
