Neole Anna Cornelio (born 2005, Dubai, United Arab Emirates) is an Indian track and field athlete specializing in sprinting events, particularly the 100 metres. She represents Karnataka at the national level and has competed for India in the 4×100 metres relay at international championships, including the World Athletics Championships and the South Asian Athletics Federation (SAAF). She is regarded as one of India’s most promising young sprinters.

Early life and education
[edit]Cornelio was born in Dubai to Vijaya Nelson Cornelio and Flora Favia Barnes, originally from Udupi district, Karnataka. She has one elder brother, Nashley Anthony Cornelio. Her family relocated to Bangalore, India, when she was four years old.

Cornelio began her athletic journey at the age of five while studying at St. Francis Xavier School, Bangalore. Her teacher, Miss Anna, introduced her to sprinting, where her early talent became evident. From Grade 3 through her first PUC, she trained under Coach Mallesh, who developed her foundational speed and technique.
At 17, she joined Balladham Club, training under Coach Bindu Rani Gowda, an Asian medalist. Under Gowda’s mentorship, Cornelio transitioned from multi-event disciplines such as long jump and triathlon to focus exclusively on short sprints, primarily the 100 m.
She currently studies Psychology and Journalism at St. Joseph’s University, Bangalore, while also pursuing certification as a High-Performance Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Inspirations
[edit]Cornelio credits Eva Sokolova, the 1994 European Indoor Champion, for inspiring her resilience in the early stages of her career. Her primary sporting role model is Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, the Jamaican Olympic and World Champion, whose longevity, explosive sprinting power, and professionalism continue to influence her training and mindset.
Early struggles
[edit]Although supported by her family, Cornelio faced psychological and body image challenges during her adolescence. Due to her muscular physique, she was often bullied and labeled negatively, which affected her confidence. Over time, with guidance from her family and mental health professionals, she transformed her physical strength into her biggest advantage as a sprinter.
Cornelio now advocates for body positivity and mental wellness in sports, encouraging young athletes to focus on performance and health rather than appearance.
