The leader of the Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats (Lithuanian: Tėvynės sąjungos – Lietuvos krikščionių demokratų lyderis), also colloquially known as the Conservatives (Lithuanian: Konservatorių lyderis), is the highest political office within the Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS–LKD), the main centre-right political party in Lithuania. The leader is the most senior politician of the party, responsible for overall political direction, strategy, organization, and representation both domestically and internationally. The position is currently held by Laurynas Kasčiūnas, who was elected on 9 February 2025 and took office on 15 March 2025.[1]

The leader gives political direction to the party, chairs its main decision-making bodies and represents the party in the Seimas (the Lithuanian parliament) and in international politics. The leader is also responsible for preparing election campaigns, presenting the party’s programme to the public, and keeping unity inside the party. When the Homeland Union is part of a government, the leader often holds an important ministerial position.[2][3]

Election

[edit]

The leader is chosen through a direct vote of party members and sometimes supporters. Regular elections take place every four years, but early elections can be called if the leader resigns or loses support. Candidates are nominated by the party, and the winner is confirmed at the party sessions.
