Comment: Everything from "being their final release with Lava Records." is unsourced; for WP:BLP, we need every statement sourced. – Meena • 14:15, 23 October 2025 (UTC)
Comment: None of the sources mention then band and even if they did none are helpful for notability as they are listings, press releases/announcements and the like. S0091 (talk) 15:23, 4 October 2025 (UTC)

JunkBunny is an American rock band formed in Montgomery, Texas by lead vocalist and guitarist Mac Johnson and drummer Jake Douglas in 2011 under the name The Contagious when they were 10 and 9 years old, respectively. The current lineup consists of original founder Mac Johnson, bassist and backup vocalist Seth Reissig and drummer Isaac Moore. JunkBunny found success early on and have released 2 EPs and one studio album.[1] The band was formerly called Contagious (and then briefly The Contagious)[2].
History
[edit]2011–2015: Formation, One Day and early years
[edit]Frontman Mac Johnson and drummer Jake Douglas first met in the third grade[2]. Douglas had been drumming since the age of two.
Johnson was a budding guitarist, and as soon as they realized they both played instruments, a bond was formed. Douglas' father, John Douglas, assisted the duo to create their first song, One Day[3]. with Douglas on vocals and drums, and Johnson on guitar and backing vocals. the duo would debut the song at Jakefest 5 in late 2011[4], and the song would release on streaming as a single on November 26th, 2012.
In late 2013, Contagious would recruit Kade Lenamon as their bassist and new backing vocalist[5], as Johnson was now taking over lead vocal duty. Lenamon was a school friend of Johnson and Douglas, and fit in perfectly. throughout 2014, the band continued playing shows, mainly at talent shows.
2016–2018: Introduction of Cayden Diebold, Singles, and Lava Records Deal
[edit]at the end of 2015, Kade Lenamon would depart from Contagious. after some time, the band returned to play their annual talent show. Now rebranded slightly as The Contagious, the band recruited Cayden Diebold as their new bassist, whom they had met while playing together at the Montgomery School Of Rock. at the end of 2016, the band would begin recording music, and would release the singles Sedona, and This Time in January of 2017. Douglas' father had ties to many bands, which lead to The Contagious opening for ZZ Top[6] in the fall of 2017, as well as Sammy Hagar and the Circle.[7]
In early 2018, Bon Jovi's "This House Is Not For Sale" tour was coming to Texas, and The Contagious were asked to open, with Jon Bon Jovi signing their note to be excused from school.[8] after these few concerts, Jason Flom of Lava Records would reach out to John Douglas, offering the band a record label deal, which they accepted.[9]
2019–2021: Name Change, EPs, and departure of Cayden Diebold
[edit]On April 1st, 2019, The Contagious would rebrand into JunkBunny, and the band would record 10 songs with producer Howard Benson[10], of which 8 made the cut, and eventually it was decided to be split into two EPs releasing in 2019 and 2020, respectively[11].
On September 20th, Sedona would release on streaming accompanied with a music video[12], as well as the announcement of the first EP, titled Junk Rock. During the buildup to the release of Sedona, JunkBunny would be announced for the Louder Than Life 2019 lineup[13]. On October 18th, Junk Rock would release on streaming services worldwide[14], with four tracks. shortly after, JunkBunny would also be announced for Buzzfest 2019.[15]
JunkBunny would continue playing shows throughout 2019, and on March 13th, 2020, were announced to be opening for The Warning on their North American tour[16], however this tour was cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions. the COVID-19 pandemic would also lead to JunkBunny being dropped from Lava Records, with their second EP, Down The Rabbit Hole[17], being their final release with Lava Records[18].
JunkBunny returned to playing shows in early 2021, and shortly after, Cayden Diebold discussed leaving the band with Douglas and Johnson, and the announcement was officially made in May of 2021[19]. The band searched for a new bassist, but eventually decided on remaining a duo. in Summer of 2021, Douglas and Johnson began writing new music, set for a new EP[20].
2022–2024: Departure of Jake Douglas, and Starting Over
[edit]In early 2022, Douglas and Johnson fell out before a show, leading Douglas to quit the band after their show that night, which Johnson revealed on a podcast[21]. JunkBunny would return in September of 2022, with new drummer, Isaac Moore, and new bassist, Seth Reissig[22]. they would continue writing new music but prioritized playing shows. a year later, the single, "Make Me Smile", would release, followed by two others, and the band's debut album, "Starting Over" would release shortly after in 2024.
2025–present: Upcoming second album
[edit]In June of 2025, JunkBunny began teasing new music on their instagram, and in August shared a snippet of the song "Don't Look Down On Me"[23].
