Implicit Conversions, Inc. is a video game developer specialising in the commercial emulation of classic and retro video games on modern gaming platforms.

The company has developed the Syrup emulation engine, which features a suite of emulators for classic gaming platforms ranging from the Nintendo Entertainment System through to the Sony PlayStation..[1][2]

In October 2024 they released their first self-published title using the Syrup emulation engine:- Micro Mages (originally developed by Morphcat Games)[3]. They have subsequently worked with partners including Limited Run Games, Digital Eclipse and XSEED Games to bring games such as Fear Effect[4][5], Mortal Kombat Trilogy[3], and Milano's Odd Job Collection[6] back to modern platforms.

In addition to their work on the Syrup emulation engine, the company has also been a partner of Sony Interactive Entertainment supporting their PlayStation Plus Classics Catalogue since its introduction in 2022[2][7]. This partnership has included emulation based releases of classic PlayStation, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable games on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. As of October 2025 over 100 classic games have been released[8]

The Syrup emulation engine is a proprietary emulation platform that enables developers to bring classic and retro video games to modern gaming platforms like PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Microsoft Windows.[1][2]

Similar to other multi-system emulator platforms, it utilises a shared front-end (Syrup) with modular support for loading emulation plugins of various classic gaming systems.[2]

Features

[edit]

It includes front-end functionality which enables the emulated game to support save states, timeline rewind, and controller re-mapping. Additionally, it enables aspects of the game to be modified, such as adding widescreen support, altering game assets and adding additional language localisations.[2]
