Bahul Ramesh is an Indian cinematographer and screenplay writer known that won critical acclaim for his films Kishkinda Kaandam and Eko .[1][2]His debut movie as a cinematographer was Mandharam released in 2018. But his notable work was mystery thriller Kishkindha Kaandam (2024), for which he wrote the script and handled the cinematography department.[3][4]In 2025, he once again joined hands with director Dinjith Ayyathan for the Malayalam film Eko. For this film he worked as both writer and cinematographer.[5] [6]He has also worked as a screenwriter for the web series Kerala Crime Files 2 streaming on Disney Hotstar .[7][8]
Early life and education
[edit]Bahul Ramesh hails from Payyanur district, in Kerala.[9] He completed his bachelors degree in Visual Communication, and began his career Malayalam films. He initially worked for few short films before started shooting feature films.[10]
Career
[edit]Bahul Ramesh began his career as a cinematographer for the 2018 Malayalam film Mandharam, his debut in the industry.[11][12] However for his 2024 film Kishkindha Kaandam, where he also wrote the screenplay became a commercial success and received critical acclaim.[13] [14][15]The film’s success made him as one of the notable writer and cinematographer in Malayalam industry. He recently reunited with director Dinjith Ayyathan for the movie Eko (2025). For this film he once again worked as both writer and cinematographer.[16][17]
Critical Acclaim
[edit]Both movies Kishkinda Kaandam and Eko were notable for their innovative and non-linear narrative and use of place and its animals as omnipresent players in the drama. Both films deliberately avoid the three act structure and develop in an organic way.
