BBCO Design LLC (styled BBCO) is an architecture and interior design firm based in Columbus, Ohio. It was founded in 2009 by Bhakti Bania and Bharat Baste.
History
[edit]The firm was founded in 2009 by architect Bhakti Bania and COO Bharat Baste. BBCO specializes in architecture and interior design for civic, educational, early childhood, workplace, retail, and housing projects. The firm operates under the design philosophy "Build Less | Create More".[1]
In 2022, BBCO partnered with The Day Companies to purchase the historic Schlee–Kemmler Building at 326–328 South High Street in downtown Columbus. The five-story Romanesque Revival building, originally constructed in 1895, had been vacant since 2019. BBCO restored original features such as hardwood floors, tin ceilings, and oversized windows. The firm moved its headquarters to the building’s top two floors in 2024.[2][3]
Awards and Recognition
[edit]BBCO was named one of *Columbus Business First's* "Fast 50" companies in 2023 and 2024, ranking #40 and #27 respectively.[4]
In 2024, BBCO won the "Best New Office" category at *Columbus Business First*’s Building Columbus Awards for its renovation of the Schlee–Kemmler Building.[4]
Co-founder and CEO Bhakti Bania was named one of *Columbus Business First*’s 2023 Women of Influence and was profiled in *Ohio State Alumni Magazine* and *OSU College of Engineering News*.[5][6]
She was also honored with a 2024 Smart 50 Award by *Smart Business* for executive leadership.[7]
