Ahonsi Unuigbe (born 18 June 1976) is a Nigerian businessman and corporate executive. He is the founder of Petralon Energy, a Nigerian exploration and production company, the chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX), and a director at Meren Energy Inc., a company listed on both the Toronto Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stockholm. In September 2025, he was appointed chairman of Marconi's board.NG EPC Limited.[1]

[edit]Unuigbe was born in Lagos, Nigeria, on 18 June 1976. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Sussex in 1998 and a Master of Science degree in International Securities and Investment Banking from the ICMA Centre at the University of Reading in 2000.[2]

[edit]Unuigbe began his career in finance and investment banking, working in capital markets and structured finance with institutions including Citibank (UK/Nigeria) and Stanbic IBTC Bank. He later transitioned into entrepreneurship in Nigeria’s energy sector.[3]
Petralon Energy
[edit]In May 2014, Unuigbe founded Petralon Energy, an indigenous Nigerian exploration and production company focusing on marginal field development and production growth in the Niger Delta region.[4] Under his leadership, the company has been involved in reviving previously inactive oil assets and supporting local participation in Nigeria’s upstream petroleum industry.
Dawes Island Field
[edit]Petralon Energy played a role in reactivating the Dawes Island Field, which was discovered by Chevron in 1979 and awarded in 2003 but remained inactive until production resumed under Petralon’s management.[5] The company also holds non-operated interests in other licences, including PML/OML 52, PMLs 2, 3, and 4, and PPL 261 (formerly part of OML 130), through Meren Energy Inc.
Community initiatives
[edit]Petralon established Host Community Development Trusts (HCDTs) for Ogoloma and Koniama communities, supporting awareness programmes and dedicating a portion of operating costs to community development.[6]
Nigerian Exchange Limited

Marconi.NG EPC Limited
[edit]In July 2025, Unuigbe was appointed chairman of Marconi. NG EPC Limited, formerly part of the Eni/Saipem engineering division.[11] The company operates one of the largest fabrication yards in West Africa and executes major engineering, procurement, and construction projects.

[edit]Unuigbe previously served as Commissioner for Budget, Planning, and Economic Development in Edo State from 2010 to 2011.[12] He was also Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director at First Hydrocarbon Nigeria, where he was involved in capital raising for upstream operations.
