Charles Boycott (12 March 1832 – 19 June 1897) was the man after whom the modern word "boycott" was coined. The term is an eponym derived from his surname. He was the first person to be boycotted: farmers in County Mayo, Ireland, started a movement to refuse any trade or social relations with him.
