Carla Diane Hayden (born August 10, 1952)[1][2] is an American librarian. She was the 14th Librarian of Congress from 2016 until 2025.[3][4] Hayden is the first woman and the first African American to hold the post.[5][6][7] She is the first professional librarian appointed to the post in over 60 years.[8]
