The Bahrain Workers' Union is a trade union organization in the Kingdom of Bahrain. It is affiliated with the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU). However, the International Centre for Trade Union Rights (ICTUR) notes that the union does not appear to have a significant or verifiable presence in the country.[1]

Background

[edit]

Trade unions in Bahrain have existed since the legalization of organized labor in 2002, under the Workers Trade Union Law.[2] The law permits the creation of trade unions in both public and private sectors but limits union pluralism within workplaces. The General Federation of Workers Trade Unions in Bahrain (GFW TUB) is the country’s largest and most recognized federation.[3]

Although the Bahrain Workers’ Union is listed as a WFTU affiliate, there is limited evidence of its domestic activities or membership. It is occasionally referenced in international trade union directories but not in Bahrain’s recognized list of active federations.
