Plot
[edit]The series follows Chief Inspector Keung Hey-man (Moon Lau) of the Criminal Intelligence Bureau (CIB), who receives a cryptic message from an artificial intelligence assistant known as Julie that leads her to a dismembered body. The case connects to an ongoing serial murder investigation led by Inspector Kwok Bak-fei (Joel Chan) of the Major Crimes Unit. Their superiors merge the two teams into the Anonymous Signal Intelligence Bureau (ASIB), a new unit tasked with solving crimes linked to Julie’s mysterious signals.
Julie’s messages seem to predict future crimes but frequently mislead or manipulate the investigators. As the team pursues cases ranging from the “Limb-Sawing Maniac” murders to incidents of spontaneous human combustion, desiccated corpses in abandoned houses, and missing children linked to a shadowy orphanage, Hey-man and Bak-fei are also forced to confront the fallout of a failed mission three years earlier—an operation that left their mentor dead, fractured their partnership, and inflicted lasting psychological scars.
Meanwhile, undercover officer Wan Ka-lei (Tiffany Lau) rekindles a complicated relationship with Chiu Chun-long (Owen Cheung). The pair raise their adopted daughter, Tsz-yu (Lesley Chung), a young girl battling leukemia, whose well-being becomes an emotional anchor for both characters. As ASIB delves deeper into Julie’s origins, suspicions of a mole within the unit surface, eroding trust among team members.
The mastermind is ultimately revealed to be Lee Kin-wo (Brian Tse), who created Julie to orchestrate a series of deadly games. Assisted by corrupt police insider Kwan Chun-yu (Cheung Kwok-keung) and ruthless assassin Ling Lit (Bob Cheung), Kin-wo manipulates both criminals and investigators, erasing the boundary between justice and exploitation.
In the final episodes, the team exposes Kin-wo’s full scheme, culminating in a climactic showdown within an “ultimate game arena.” During the confrontation, Lau Lik (Jazz Lam) sacrifices his life to save his comrades, while Bak-fei kills Kin-wo in hand-to-hand combat. Although the network behind Julie is dismantled, the series closes with the revelation that Julie 2.0 has quietly gone online, suggesting that the cycle of surveillance and manipulation will continue.[2]
